Same reason we have automatic transmissions now. Everything has to be dumbed down to the turd world lowest common denominator.

Because they immigrate to the country, and within a couple weeks are already taking license tests to get a class 5 (car license). They haven't even had enough time to finish immigration paperwork before they can drive.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Megas got a bottom line that they got to meet and the only way to meet it is to put a warm bum in the seat that's willing to work for 10 cpm less than a Canadian who knows better?

A few years ago there was an idea floated around having a restricted commercial drivers license for those that used a automatic for their test. Did anything ever come of that?

BC has an auto restricted commercial license. I'm not sure what happens when you switch provinces though.

Ontario has restricted A and I remember it was supposed to include auto shifts but turned out to just restrict pickup with 5th wheels. Basically no air brakes, which requires a Z endorsement anyway
