Same reason we have automatic transmissions now. Everything has to be dumbed down to the turd world lowest common denominator.

A few years ago there was an idea floated around having a restricted commercial drivers license for those that used a automatic for their test. Did anything ever come of that?

BC has an auto restricted commercial license. I'm not sure what happens when you switch provinces though.

Ontario has restricted A and I remember it was supposed to include auto shifts but turned out to just restrict pickup with 5th wheels. Basically no air brakes, which requires a Z endorsement anyway
