I found a 1989 western star daycab big cam cummins 13 speed. Has a small external head gasket leak. How much is it worth. I looked at it but don't have pics to post yet. They are asking 5000

I say your better off spending a little more on a International 9400I Eagle that is 2000 or newer. They are proven solid trucks with a Cummins ISX15 and a Eaton manual. They usually run under $25,000 U.S. for a nice one.
Cabover9670 Thanks this. -
$35,000

$20,000 is a "little" more? lol I'd like to get a 9400 at some point

The western star would just be a farm truck

What's your budget if you don't mind me asking?

https://www.truckpaper.com/listings/trucks/for-sale/17150497/1987-international-9670 this truck does not look bad and they were good trucks it has a wet kit too. But it has a 9 speed unfortunately.

Offer them 3k and see what happens.

Not looking to spend a lot. The 9670 does a good job for what we do but looking for something a little nicer. Just hauling grain and tractors on stepdeck occasionally

A small external head gasket leak is likely a liner. You can take that head off and try to figure out what the problem is, but you would be better of pricing in an inframe. So if you get the truck cheap, run it like it is until it really starts leaking, then repair as needed. Try the $3000 offer, there are many trucks like it on the market.
