I'm happy with my LTL company position. However I was curious what a common rate/mile is realistic these days. I was an O/O from 2001 to 2010 and would usually get $2.00/mile out of KS, pulling reefer with meat or making 2 to 3 pickups and 2 drops. Coming back to KS was sometimes a challenge. Always got paid good going to Denver or to east coast. Coming back not so good.
Per/mile gross ?

What's funny is that 10 years later $2/mile is still the average. It's not what everyone is making but it's the average. I don't think anyone could argue about that. Many run for less and many wouldn't run for $2 if they had been sitting for a week.
Me? If I'm happy with the broker, the pickup and delivery and everything else about the run I can make good money at $2/mile. -
Pretty sad when you think about it considering the price on EVERYTHING continuously rises. Even more sad it's never going to get better in this industry. If anything it will continuously get worse.KB3MMX, Upinsmoke and 4mer trucker Thank this.

$2 a mile is average. The important thing is to just make sure you're taking loads above cost or minimizing your loss. The $ per mile doesn't matter as long as it's above cost.
That's how I keep my sanity in all of this anyway. -

That's a really good week but you did put together a string of runs where you were always headed to a better area (meaning usually freight bad out of that area). That's not easy to do. Congrats.
Unfortunately you'll probably have to roll for $1/mile to get out of Florida.Upinsmoke Thanks this. -
I make 3 partial to Wisconsin from Florida for 2.4/mile. Tomorrow will deliver it all.
