I started this job in December with a Volvo that started giving me problems related more to the fuel system and DEF system. I was put in a Penske rental for a while and now they want me to move back into my original truck.
I'm checking a few things and find the oil is way past the Max level. Maybe by an inch and a half almost up to the bottom of the handle. I'm not a mechanic, but this seems weird to me. I'm not sure if some mechanics think semis have a tolerance for this or if some oil will be taken up by the filter and the dipstick level will come down?
Shop filled oil up to dipstick handle.

Bossman always adds an extra gallon to mine when he services the truck.

Too much oil could blow the seals in the engine because it is not a vented crankcase.
Get it drained.p608, rolls canardly, NavigatorWife and 5 others Thank this. -
Yea. Listen to Ridgeline...

Too much oil is far less likely to blow seals. It will blow out the dipstick first. What will happen is that the crank/piston journals will beat the hell out of the oil in the pan. When it does that, you have aerated oil which doesn't provide the intended lubricity of wear items. Severe engine damage can occur if oil is not drained to the proper level.
