So you may feel the need to defend old Dominion frieght line
The cold hard truth is that I never even put a scratch on anything since I've been here. 5 yrs safe driving record
This was a witch hut by old Dominion. To discredit a good and loyal employee
    With Cancer
Just to get out of paying for the cancer treatment . And to protect there bottom line

Heck no !!! I don't feel a need to defend OD i know exactly how heartless these corporates can be. But i didn't know the situation sometimes there are good people in the company that would be in your corner in this deal

Well there are a lot of wonderful people at old Dominion. But that doesn't feed my family and pay for cancer treatment
The bottom line is that they did me very dirty and they really don't care about there employees

Let me be the first to enlighten you. The JOB is not important. Having dealt with this very same matter, losing insurance is impossible unless you failed to plan your life and your needs. Just having health insurance isn’t enough.

Short & long term disability paid ALL household bills during a family members treatment. Those bills included, house, 2 cars, utilities, groceries, AND Cobra.

And because she planned her life and needs properly. Insurance paid ALL her outstanding debts when she died. And left her estate intact.

A J.O.B. is a means to provide all those things. If, and only if you actually purchased the CORRECT insurance.

Stop relying on your employer and/or other people to decide what you need.

Just a brief history lesson for you. Health Insurance was originally offered when tax rates were HUGE (90% top rate) Offered as a means for employer and employee to dodge paying taxes since is was not counted as income.

100% Employer paid insurance is history. Move on.

Im going to give myself a minute to help you a little bit. With some thoughts.

    1. Trucking companies are some of the tightest fisted people on planet earth. I am absolutely not surprised they eliminated you before you broke their bank. Its the same as taking you around back and putting a bullet into your brain stem. Does that make sense? Death by Employer Firing because you are fixing to be very costly to them.

O' great trusted driver, it's too bad you did not report a missing load of Bullion to OSD clerk rounding off where necessary the dollar amounts. To be a great honest employee and a warrior and then crushed....

Remember this. Do not get angry if at all possible. You will have 10,000 people outraged and maybe even show riot conditions wherever you and the company meet in the future.

Trucking companies are colder in the bone than Stalin could ever dream of doing. Go forth and take care of yourself whatever happens. Keep a glad heart. Stand with arms akimbo and laugh at those who are not good.

Finally consider those issues with influence on you and yours. Everything else gets discarded.

Short term is a joke. There are so many catches and small prints, whatever you collect will not cover much. Long term insurance covering cobra premiums, that's just straight bs. Besides if your employment is terminated, all employer run long and short term plans go down the drain.

When I worked for Ryder I worked with a couple of drivers with cancers, all died on a job. They kept them working and paying those obscene bills for them. Even though a terminally ill person who must work in between really bad stretches to keep his insurance that's mighty twisted too. But it is not a nameless faceless corporation who does firing of the sick, those sobs have proper names and job titles. Branch and operation managers have much of that power and discretion. If I had cancer I would let them know that I don't have much to lose just to make their sleep sweeter.

From what I was taught Cobra is a temporary 18 month coverage that YOU pay for yourself upon seperation from employer for any reason. Thus the Government is pleased that you, the poor sick worker should not be without coverage anytime soon, even if it costs a thousand in months premium, has a deductable so high you need three years wages to pay it before any of it comes into effect for you.

    Follow me so far?

I made sure that I stayed away from the drain of maintaining benefits most of my life there is a 1986 law that requires ALL ER's Trauma, Burn centers etc to provide adequate treatment of acute issues until life itself is tolerable. Deal with the billing problems later.

Fast forward to now, I find myself paying for Medicare as part of workers disability, worndown and broken by the jobs that gave us a life for many years. Ive got medicaid involved as well. Peter, paul, simon, samson and all the other hands are out as well. What a racket I say.

Take my recent surgery. It's way cheaper than a nursing home and much better than having a 24/7 nurse care and god knows what else. But the hospital LOVED my case, They carefully bill me 200 dollars for saline IV when you can get it for 10 bucks at a supply shop. (I hold a merchant number, I can probably make it happen, but not private citizens...) They put me in a room that earned them 20K in 6 days because the insurance would pay. Never mind that I can take the back pew of the chapel in the nice quiet dark for a few days and then go home.

I don't know of any place outside of say western nevada where I can make things happen and people happy on 20K in one week's Carousing.

I am slowly getting to where I think about getting stuff fixed medically very carefully. Not just because it's so expensive I can sell two houses and maybe then I can pay for it.
