Most 40 footers have an empty weight of 8200 lbs give or take a couple hundred pounds so that 20 footer would have been 4-5k lbs so 4 straps over the top was more than enough.

Treated like normal freight it should be 5.

Only containers I hauled were those military ones that are 8’x8’ and I just used 2 straps on each. Made it 2100 miles and didn’t move a mm so I assume it was fine.

The military also uses 40' and 20' cans. I've hauled those 8' ones too, just like that 2 straps per can did just fine.
