Think I'll just mount my older 29 in a pelican case, and get a magnetic antenna and call it good.
Thanks for feed back.
Like the idea of GPS in there also, think I may have room for sirus as well.
Call Pelican up tomorrow for replaced foam for unused gun case. -
Get one of these to charge the batteries.
It runs off of 12 volts so you can wire it directly up to the truck.

That sounds like a good plan to me.
A hand-held with an integral antenna works much better for UHF/VHF because the relatively small antennas better accommodate the relatively tiny RF wavelengths. Even so, I would imagine that trying to use one inside the cab of a truck can be problematic.
I have a hand-held CB that I bought 30 years ago from Radio Shack which works about as good as any other 4-Watt legal because it came with an external antenna plug that I use to connect to an external antenna. It is certainly compact enough to be used with one hand and everything is there: transmitter, receiver and microphone. You do have to accommodate a relatively stiff antenna coax when in use. And although the speaker is tiny, it is naturally located close to the ear when in use. It is actually the most compact transceiver I have ever used if the external antenna is not counted in the mix. -
Whenever I used my handheld I would use my vehicle stereo as the external speaker(s).

Most modern handhelds have a BNC connector on top. Mine do, anyway.
Simply plug this adapter on top and connect to your external antenna for best performance.
Meteorgray and Slowmover1 Thank this. -
No. I don't do bags.
What I do with family on east coast is ship as a package, tracked and insured etc. Before I go there by plane.
Going by plane via airport airline is not a favorite activity anymore due to TSA's overly aggressive approach. If I don't have anything at all for them to check, there is generally no problem.
I love flying. But not with luggage or anything. Worse case scenario I might have one tiny carry on which is really easy to search. But don't depend on it. The alternative is rail. I can be in Maryland in about 30 hours via sleeper car which costs a little more but works well. -
You’re assuming I still fly? I knew how nice it was in the 1960s. Could get free tickets anywhere in the world until not so long ago.
-
It wasn't long ago people could smoke on flights as well.

Your TWIC card and Haz-Mat cert will get you the short, fast pre-clearance line.
Make a point of looking trucker stereotype that day. We have a rep to keep. Talk loudly on your telephone headset about truck-related so as the civilians you’re walking past KNOW (and can smell) you be the real thang.
