    There was that "recap" on the back of paper log books. I never could figure that out, so I left it blank, besides, years ago, I never remember being asked for a logbook.

    Your dispatcher will be keeping track of your available hours also. He won't give you a "hot" load knowing you only have a few hours available. Unless he plans to swap you out. Believe me, if you're under a hot load and you think you're going to take a 34, it won't happen.

    Some referred to the last 8 days recap. This would be prior to the 34 hour recap law year. I think what? mid 00's?

    If you knew what hours you got back on the 8th day you knew also what hours look like the following week. Trip planning gets really easy.

    I usually support the 34 against a 70 reset anyway, some weeks it can take two or three days to really gather enough to make a full workday to do something with it down the road prior to that new rule.

    The one thing i like to do is if im starting a fresh 70 i like to give myself a good 10 hr day that first day, just incase if i get short on hours and i need that recap itll be a nice one... Theres to many times where i really needed some hours back and my 1st recap day ended up only being 6 hours or something and it ruins the whole week and miss out on a good paying run..

    I prefer to burn up my 70 and restart

    I end up getting a lot of loads under 500 miles so I don't mind running on recaps occasionally because it won't really affect the loads I get (generally speaking).

    We had a mixup with the shipper that cost me a day and now I've got recap hours plus the end of my 70 and I'm still gonna restart.

    If the company asks me to do something different I almost always will but they generally leave alone which I prefer.

    I ran units doing 2 trips a day from Bayonne, NJ to Belvidere, NJ. this was back when it was 15 and 8 instead of 14 and 10 for HOS.

    The honest guy logged 12 hours a day, 5 days a week and only had 10 hours for the following Monday. [5x12=60; 70-60=10]

    Another guy cheated down to 11 hours a day, 5 days a week and always had his full 15 for Monday
    [11x5=55, 70-55=15]

    So a regular, local, gig you can average 11 hrs a day, 5 days a week and always have a full recap on Monday.

    Problem is finding that job ! ! !
