I heard the Japanese invented a robot that will lean on a shovel all day for 10% of what a highway worker gets paid.

    ^^^ That's perfect!!!

I think some of you guys worry too much. Have you ever woken up a day in your adult life and there wasn't a crappy job to go to? There will always be a crappy job for us, don't worry about what the robots do or don't do.

They have a setup like that at the Walmart dc in mebane nc. It took them six months to get it halfway working. It still only does larger case, and only the same product.

I know a woman that did that. Went from minimum wage fast food job to starting salary at Nisson of $65K after graduating from robotics school. She did that as a divorced single parent of 3 children, receiving no child support or alimony.

I didn’t see the robot grab a roll of shrink wrap......maybe that’s where the humans come in.

I wasn’t referring to loading or unloading trucks, only the movement of boxes by robots. Here’s a video from 4 years ago. They likely now have more sophisticated robots.

I wouldn’t be too worried about automated trucks in the next 50 to 100 or more years. While I took 5 years off trucking working as an electronics tech again, the company I worked for was contracted by one of the largest perveyors of this tech. The technology is feasible, but has a long long way to go before any government or public agency will ok it as 100% fail safe. The problem on the tech side is that AI is not going to be capable of making rational choices based off irrational situations. The human mind is capable of working in these situations, but still makes mistakes. The perfect AI would be made after the human mind, what’s the point then? The only reason automated cars is a thing, is investors think it’s cool and technical, which attracts more investors, thus driving up stock prices speculatively. High stock value doesn’t mean that a corporate ideaology is doing well, only that the shareholders think it is.

The fastest way they can make these driverless vehicles possible is to build two lane roads in the center of some freeways and away from drivers. They can then take over long haul trucking in some parts of the country. It can’t be too hard to have these vehicles in one lane for 1000 miles.
