Does the ECM know you have a low coolant sensor?
-
the sensor on the coolant res. hooks into the wiring harness that runs from the ecm to the inside of the truck on the left side of the firewall on the cab.

ECM may be losing ignition or unswitched battery power. Usually if the ECM is programmed for shutdown on low coolant the Check Engine and Stop Engine lights will come on and stay on and the engine will shut down in 30 seconds. If the engine stumbles or seems to stutter or die when this happens it may be going through a reboot that happens at key on. Usually when you key on the ECM boots up and tests it self and turns on the Check and Stop engine lights in the dash for a bulb test. If this happens while running you will have symptoms that you describe. You will need to check the ECM for fault codes, and or check the power harness from the batteries to the ECM for any corrosion or bad connections. You truck may or may not have a diagnostic switch to retrieve fault codes. You may have to look around, usually under the steering column.

Is the coolant level where it needs to be? If it is close, but not topped off, the coolant sloshing around will make and lose contact. Our T8's loves to do that.
