I remember hearing that DD13’s were not designed for heavy loads, say, 80k gross. I think those engines are also smaller and local trucks tend to use those engines. However, I am just going by what I heard. Maybe someone can clear this.

Its a 13L what do mean it isn't capable. 505/1850 ain't enough for 80k and under? Most fleet DD15 are 455/1550.

I found this in Detroit’s website.
Detroit DD13 Engine | Demand Detroit
From the pictures you can see the DD13 engine is smaller than the DD15. This explains why some Freightliner Cascadias have smaller hoods.Attached Files:

The dd15 gets better fuel mileage

Dd13 will get at least 1mpg better but not as much power obviously,we ran the dd13,never under 6mpg usually better in a flat nose western star hauling 100k gross, then bought dd15 same model trucksame trailer and loads and wouldn't hit over 5.4.....but night n day difference in power

And that 2000 mile warranty seals the deal.

My last company had a loaner from Penske with a D13/505 10 speed. It was an older truck
