Your "limit" is dependent on your axle and tire rating.

Those labels you see in the door jams. You might try looking at them once in awhile.

There's also the spec sheet that comes with your new truck.

    There's also a VIN lookup.

I'm also guessing that if that's not the case. The scales would be stopping you for weighing 13 on a 12 rated axle. And they're not.

@snowwy, You're right. You are guessing.

Axle limits are the lower of

    1) vehicle specs
    2) tire rating
    3) state law (but no less than 12K on Federal highways).

Anyone can look up 1) and 2) on their own truck, and state laws on the links in this thread.

If you have 14K fronts (I do) and the right tires (I do) and the states and provinces you travel through allow it (they do), then 14K is just fine.

    Conversation I had with FL.

13 was what was being ordered.

    My 16 had a 13. My 12 had a 12.

States vary, we are allowed 13000 on steer, 38 on closed tandem and 40 on a spread, gross depends on length, plus a 3000 bonus if we don't have a lift axle on the tractor, we can have all the lifts we want on the trailers, and the weight just keeps going up.

Ok I will say it again, The FEDERAL LIMIT on a FT AXLE axle is 20,000 , it is ALL dependent on your AXLE and TIRE rating,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

This guy right here listen to the man. :D

    Fed rules.
Bridge law is 20k for a single axle. (Steer is a single)
    393.75 (g) load limit
    393.75 (i) inflation pressure

Now there are state laws, as a state laws can make a fed rule stricter. But not lighter, and ofcourse then you have company polices, but fed law>state law>company policy.
