yeah. Guys like you have been around the block and know your stuff. Me on the other hand, i have to pay to have cat done. With the shops around here, if something goes south, its a he said she said match. so when it comes time, ill be dropping mine off at cat for a 25+k overhaul and the 4 year no questions asked warranty. I have a friend that has 4 petes. The one motor went south twice in 3 years. This time cat has it and had to do an out of frame. Now has to go to court over the prior work done to recoup the cost becuase of poor workmanship

I see where you guys are going with this. If you have a very very good reliable engine builder that stands behind their work with warranty, then aftermarket is the way to go. And if doing your own work and confident, then aftermarket is the way to go. IF you have no reputable source, and cant do it yourself, then its best to go to cat and get the warranty.
I have a question here now. So are you guys saying CAT is a junk product? Im sorry but i cant agree with this on that level.Intothesunset Thanks this. -
I don't know crap, what I know I learned from a buddy who's been overhauling tractors since he was about 12
-
Stupid fat finger.
Labor was 50 bucks an hour. I know a guy who spent 35k getting an e model done, and that was at a big name shop that's been around here for years, and they didn't even put a new oil cooler in, I figure you might as well go the full on cheap route where you know they'll do a decent job. -
hey bro. your post says you dont know crap. And everything you learned was from a buddy. So your buddy doesnt know crap after overhauling tractors all these years? im confused
-
ok i gotcha

I didn't trust my mechanical abilities enough to try it on my own. I can see where that first post was confusing, hit post before I was ready.

Cat is not the company they once were......
That being said if I was going to do everything in the motor I’d let cat do it and get the warranty....
but ipd parts are not bad. And it would be a hard decision -
yeah i saw that in your second post. i built a few high performance gas engines for my personal pleasure. im sure i could rebuild my diesel. However, with the cost of a rebuild kit and down time if something goes wrong, i dont have the confidence in my self or some shop that doesnt stand behind their work like cat does
