Brake Job Cost

this is just a real quick slap a set of shoes on while i had the wheels off for tires anyway. ill probably do a more detailed brake video at some point in the future

but yeah drums are around $100-150 shoes are around 50 +/- per wheel position. takes almost as long to pull the wheels off and back on as it does to change brake shoes and drums.

 

You might try snugging your slack up then put tires on tighten up a couple lugs. Then back brakes off tighten all lugs and then final brake adjustment. It will help center the drum and you won't get a pulsing when applying your brakes.

We did brake work yesterday in addition to a invasive DOT exam on the personal car. Labor and parts for pads front came out to a total of 160 dollars. Front pads were worn to 5% just about where the screechers installed on them would have started to make noise as designed. The rotors were still in very good condition.

Pads are cheap. If you can replace them before you lose the drum or rotor, get it taken care of. I once had a car where the pads were gone, pure metal on metal for a short time until the rotors simply became chunks of metal on the pavement below the car. That was a thousand dollar job on the front and another 800 on the back axle. The replacements being beefier and optimized for very high speed cooling.

Hey brakes are ine of the easiest service jobs you can do.. only hard part is taking the wheels off.. harbor freight have the air lift or manual bottle Jack and all you need is a screw driver and a minnie sledge hammer and a wrench to adjust the slack adjuster literally takes 5mins to do once wheel is off. I paid 75 for each drum and 40 for each brake .. total in parts was 460.00 for the rears shop wanted to charge me 900 at random shop and TA. Wanted 1300.00 I purchased a torque converter wrench for big rigs for 180.00 took me 15min to take lugs off but I saved a massive a mount of money and now I do side jobs which I done 3 rigs already just figure I'll let you in just I case you was wondering about doing it your self

 

it is never a set price. You pull it apart and it can be a simple shoe slap and it can be bearings, s cams, bushings, slacks, drums, clevis, you name it. prices vary a lot. but if you have had services done you know the above stated .3 hours labor is no where close. not even a little. You come to my shop. we have to pull in and set your truck. we have to jack it up. pull the tires. remove and install shoes and reverse everything. Hell getting the truck aired up twice takes time. Just a shoe replacement is 1 hour at 100 an hour per end. good mechanic does an axle in about an hour after the truck is in and set and lifted. so we do 1.5 hours per axle for shoes or shoes and drums. A complete service including s cams and slacks is 3.5 per end. and our time allotments are lower than any around. as is my labor rate.

 

no you cant. No way can you walk to the truck. air it up. stage it. jack it up. pull tires. pull drum and shoes. pull axle. remove wheel bearings. inspect them. replace the seal and reverse it all. have the truck down and pulled out in an hour. I will give you 1000 cash if you come here and show me.
