    Hi, I just recently got canned from my Driving job that I had for 3 yrs, I have come across a little trucking company that I most likely will be able to drive for, However the company pays it's drivers a percentage instead of by miles. And the company also does long haul, so I was wondering if anyone out there never anything about getting paid by a percentage and what is the advantage or disadvantage of this type of pay. Any advice and all advice will help as I have no knowledge on this type of pay for drivers. Thanks

    Depends on the freight and how much of it.
    I pay 34% to my Drivers and it generally averages out to around
    $1400-$1600 per week for 3200-3500 miles.
    Again these are averages,I have one real good runner and he did $92K last year,YES running single.

    If its a small company your looking for their most likely offering you 19%
    on average FAK correct ?

    Either way it a set out price, but I hear from most percentage drivers tend to get a lil more.

    ###### man, are you looking for any drivers right now? I only get 23% and can't seem to get the phrase "No cheap freight, please," through my dispatchers head.

    Sorry I cut way back several years ago from 15 to 7 trucks.
    Its hard to even call myself a "Boss" due to the dedication of the other drivers.I pay "Top-Pay" because I get "Top Results" ,
    "We" all benefit.

    I have one driver I haven't seen face to face in 5.5 years,last time I saw him was when he turned in his 2K truck for the 04 he is driving now.
    Having a solid reputation for many years affords "US" what we have today.

    Based on a most recent contract bid.

    Our company was underbid by 1.00 a mile.

    That equates to a .20 or more loss (per mile) for the percentage driver, of the company who low balled their bid.

    While the guys who drive on a per mile basis. Didn't feel a thing.
