Plus by now they have worked "MOST" of the bugs out the system. New trucks shouldn't have all the problems and down time. My next door neighbor bought a brand new truck (volvo) last year. It hasn't been in the shop (other than routine maint) yet. However when his old truck blew up he didnt have time to order he had to buy off the lot. So he had to get an automatic which he now loves

    I tell you what.

Take that tractor as it is now without it blowing up. Clean it up, disinfect it and set it under cover, either a unused shop bay, a portable overhead shed or under Tarp as a museum truck within your company. If you have not had one before you have one now. That way when your children run the company they can point to that almost million mile tractor in it's Original form on display and say daddy ran that. And take it to shows 20 years from now.

Essentially retire that tractor after all that fine service all these years. But don't sell it.

The other option is to park the tractor ready for action when your new 60K truck blows up at 25000 miles a few months from now.

Take the 60K and get another tractor.

The moment that million mile engine blows up, it's scrap.

Series 60 engines are not going to be obsolete any year soon.
They are used in every platform you can think of.
Marine use, generator, pumps, and many more.
If you rebuild the engine, you will have many years of use. If your truck looks nice I would not buy a newer $60k truck that will be headache, and heartache, plus buyer remorse.

I love me good engines like the old Cats and others.

But I did not realize the extent of my love for the big horse S60's when they are running well it's a joy. However too many engines Ive seen and heard today rattle. They have lost their individual personalities and became computer casterated weedeaters designed not to run very well if at all.

I would go new. You have to finance a 100k. 2200 a month for 4 years.

Find a new mechanic. Also dont jump to conclusions, find some reliable place to put a blow-by meter/gauge on it and see how bad it is (or do yourself). Then dont assume your down on power is just because of that. Might be something else. Just because its down on power and you seen blow-by doesnt even mean its junk, might not even be related.

    Warranty Answers

Reading through this thread regarding warranties was informative. Particularly post #123. Even though this regards Peterbilts policy on warranty issues , I believe the other manufacturers have similar policies regarding shop procedures
