I tuned in on this...didn't catch it today as i got home early...but I did hear 2 of the 3 (didnt know it was a series, lol). Really weird stuff going on there.

For example...they feel that their 8 hours or less of training makes them MORE qualified to diagnose sleep issues than a doctor.

The guy being interviewed denied it was a checklist, lol. He kept dodging questions being asked by the OOIDA guy.

Apparently, they are marketing this as a survey to drivers who don't know that they could be shut down due to the way they answer questions on this thing.

One guy was asked questions and had sunglasses on due to extreme light sensitivity. They made him take his glasses off and he became irritated, his eyes got red...etc, and they shut him down.

I don't listen to Land Line radio . I get exposed to my fill of OOIDA BS on the internet . They rant on about fuel surcharge , hot fuel , new HOS sleeper regulatios ,etc. and nothing happens .

You guys are tearing this list apart when you have no idea on how it will be used if it's used at all. I agree with alot of points there and I disagree with some too. The seminar was to cover the RATIONAL observance of a tired driver. I would hope they would use this as a tool and you all know there's no law agains't TV's or whatever in the sleeper. If you're running legal then you've got nothing to worry about.

Well I can understand this....but when I listen to Landline now...I get more info than I get from many other sources. I haven't heard of this checklist thing before and the interview was very good in pointing out a lot of stuff about it.

Well...maybe, maybe not. Drivers who HAVE taken the survey ahve been shut down. But is this supposed to be a tool that is used to shut down drivers? Is having a TV int he bunk good or bad? Staying in there for 10 full hours, good or bad? Is your truck being dirty, good or bad? Look at those questions...if your truck is dirty, it looks like it is counted against you.
I mean...if you take this thing and there are a few x's in there....and the thing is a tool used to determine if you are fatigued, what makes you think they wont shut you down?

heck, I didn't see the show, but what if you're fatigued from cleaning and getting all your stuff legal for the lawdogs? Eventually there isn't any time left to drive, right?

So let me get this right. Take some survey and they determine you are fatigued and placed OOS until not fatigued. This is a hard one. I have put three drivers OOS for fatigued over the years I believe. Each of them were slumped over the wheel after I stopped and received their paperwork. Walked back to my car and reapproached. That's fatigued. So now I would be asked as a Trooper that has minimal medical training, I have had Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) training which as a DRE I can give an expert opinion as to what category of drugs a person has taken into the human body and can not drive a vehicle safely. Now I stop someone who wears contact lenses like I do, and after I have them in 10-12 hours my eyes are bloodshot and watery. There's one indicator. If the truck looks like most I stop, a POS that is dirty, urine bottles beside the seat, crap on the bunk, there is 3,4, and 5 indicators. Wow this is a fun game. A driver agrees with everything I say, because he is a good little driver now we are up to 6. INSANE. Now I get the driver out and he smells like he taken a pee bath, has his last four meals in his unshaven mess on his face and on his big ole belly. Wow I'm up to 7,8 and 9. How many do I need. Hell I can put every driver out of service I contact. And like most males the driver snores, BINGO I have 10. Driver I hate to do this to you but, you failed my survey. Now park over there until I tell you to leave. Give me a break, I will be the first to put anyone OOS but that is B.S. I hope CVSA and industry look at this real close. I will also be the first to admit that this could widely be abused by overzealous inspectors. Some have no common sense, again you have a few in every industry. Unfortunately I can think of a few I have seen over the years. :biggrin_25511:
