Hi,
I'm probably not the average user here, but I stumbled upon this forum from another site. I have been doing some research into having my car shipped coast to coast. But I have read so many horror stories of customers dealing with damage during transit, drivers holding cars hostage for more payment etc. that I'm seriously considering driving the car myself. I have a few questions:
-What would be an good online platform or company I should use to find a truck that will match my intended route? I've tried autotransport.com and auto transport city and all I got were bids from brokers. My understanding is they just add another layer of fees....
-What is an appropriate rate for a truck driver for a customer like me? I read something about 40 to 50 cents per mile. But again, I know nothing about this business.
Looking forward to some insight. Thanks!
Any recommended reliable platforms

It depends on the logistics of speed mainly. You get 2 of 3 options in any industry (especially this one):
Good, Fast & Cheap
A) Good & Fast service will not be Cheap.
B) Fast & Cheap service will not be Good.
C) Cheap & Good service will not be fast.
"A" will be your independent single, double or triple car hauler that gives a deadline guarantee.
"B" will be your independent hauler (typically found through a #### broker) that you have no business verification & no chance to review the hauling contract.
"C" is a national company that has a fleet of semi trucks. Its generally, we'll get it when we are in the area.
In my company, we generally charge .75 - 2.25 per mile depending on the timing. If you need it there rush, its gonna be $2.25/m. If its a bit flexible, it will be @ .75/mile. I run a 3 car hauler. So if I can spread the load cost over 3 cars (flexibility) then it is cheaper.
As a rule, quality transportation is going to run you $.65 - $2.00 in most cases.Blitzraider and Hammer166 Thank this. -
Thanks for your feedback! Where can I go about finding these companies? Is there a directory? I've tried ATC, autotransport, and uship. All I got were brokers. Maybe I should try again...

There is really no directory. It's difficult to go online and find actual Transport Company without spending a tremendous amount of time. One of the best ways I can think of, is to go to a local mid to high-end car dealership (Lexus, Porsche or similar) and ask for the contact information of the people of the people they use to do transportation. Dealers are always transporting cars between dealerships in what are called dealer swaps.
Blitzraider Thanks this. -
www.allcarhaulers.com is the only directory of transporters

Also depends on the location ...if the lane is hot and someone will post it on the central for you it will fly right away for cheap ...or it could be very expensive if your lane is dead
