I know I'm late to the party here but if anyone is still with V&S can you tell me if they have driver facing cameras? Thanks in advance!

No driving facing cameras, but the new trucks coming in have road facing. I'm driving for them if you have any questions.

While I believe the original poster to this thread goes a little extreme, there is a lot of truth in his post. I’m currently driving at V&S Midwest Carriers. I’ve noticed that there is a vast array of experiences here. Some people walk in the door and get a brand new truck day one, others get a half million mile pile of truck. Some people get dedicated runs and do the same trips weekly, others get random loads. The company will tell you there is no dedicated freight at V&S Midwest Carriers. It’s simply not true. There just isn’t dedicated freight for you.

The fuel bonus is attainable, I have typically received 2 cpm in addition to my base rate almost every month except the coldest winter months and one month I received 4 CPM. That leads me to one of the biggest problems here, Miles.

Your base rate and your fuel bonus don’t matter so much because they are paid by the mile, it has been my experience that miles are hard to come by at V&S Midwest. It doesn’t matter how flexible you are, how hard you want to work, or where you’re willing to go. They simply refuse to put you out on the road. Most runs are sub-700 miles. You’ll have a hard time averaging 600 miles a day, as a matter of fact, you’ll average far below that. One day you’ll have a nice long 608-680 mile run. But that’s when the trouble starts. Day two they give you 225-370 miles. Day three you burn your 14 making deliveries and picking up your back haul. Day 4 you run back to Wisconsin for a nice full day of driving. Day five you again burn your 14 dropping off and picking up your next load. This will be a short 300 mile or so out and back. So again, you’re capped at around 300 miles and spending the night before you deliver the following morning. Of course the next day is a deliver and pick again and a 300 mile drive back before you reset your HOS.

My biggest take away and piece of advice is this. Listen to them. Don’t negotiate or tell them what YOU need. Let them tell you what they’re offering. I have found that their initial pitch is actually who they are. Unfortunately they have been desperate for drivers and when they have one on the hook that they feel like they’re about to lose, they start crossing the line from reality into, “We’ll tell you anything you want to hear as long as you come drive here.” The only other negative is that there are a lot of areas that are just, “We’ll take care of you.” With no real policy or explanation how. Break down, “We’ll take care of you.” Detention pay, “Can’t really say, but we’ll bill the customer after two hours and you’ll get some of that.”

Another negative is they pay nothing for delivering a full trailer if you don’t have to wait for it to be unloaded. In other words drop and hooks are completely unpaid. While I think drop and hooks in our own yards should be free. When you have to wait at a shipper or receiver, check in, check out and spend 40 minutes to an hour there. Well, my opinion is, that’s a lot of time to be spending for $0.

2,500 mile per week fleet average is real, no matter what they tell you.

They only get new trucks in August-October so if you don’t get one then, you’re not.

It’s honestly not bad for the person who’s not trying to make a lot of money or has any level of ambition. If your priority is hometime and easy work. This place is great. If you’re looking to burn down the miles and make repetitive high dollar weeks, this is not the place for you.
