I did not realize how old this was for the first 2 pages.
I saw this Monty scam 2 years ago. In St. Paul, Indiana. I went to get $20 but then they were gone.TripleSix Thanks this. -
There are several things that continue to happen regardless of any effort against them.
1. Rookies signing up with CR England
2. Rookies getting ripped by the 3 Card Monte Scammers.
These guys prey on drivers. 6-7 guys coming into a truck stop to take your money. As soon as one person gets wise to the scam, they’re off to the next truck stop. Same group of guys I’ve saw 30 years ago. The difference 30 years ago was, there weren’t any smart phones, cell phones, BUT everyone ran their radio. And half of us were packing heat. You would hear a driver shout a warning over the radio.
Now, you guys walk around with your eyes down, Bluetooth on your head, oblivious to your surroundings. Isolated and easy prey. Just remember, if you have some guy run up to you telling sensational news about some millionaire at a truck stop, go the other way.
Six back quiet.snowman_w900, JoeyJunk, dunchues and 9 others Thank this. -
Okay, here is a new scam, at least for me. Last month I renewed my Hazmat and applied for my TWIC card...
...last week I get a phone call while I am driving, from a woman that speaks good American English. She says she is from the TSA. She says that my TWIC application is held up, because my payment "didn't go through". She wants to take payment over the phone. I tell her I am driving and can't pay right now, but can she send me an e-mail with contact information so I can make payment when I am safely parked?
Sure enough, when I take a break, I have that e-mail. Everything looks legit, BUT when I see her e-mail address it isn't a ".gov" address at all. I check my bank and there isn't any "refused payment". I call the TSA authorized service that took my fingerprints and payment. THEY want me to forward the e-mail to them.
Apparently there's a TWIC scam making the rounds. My TWIC card is waiting at home.Itsbrokeagain, stayinback, D.Tibbitt and 8 others Thank this. -
That's scary getting a scam email, that quick and convincing, from a secure government entity.

Did the TSA service offer any information as to how the scam artist knew you were expecting a TWIC cardstwik Thanks this.
-
No, but they were highly curious. I figure this has been kicked up to an investigation.
-
It should be an investigation. There's a serious leak somewhere.
