    Hey all
I'm getting pretty fed up with current company, and thinking about changing to a different company. Question is, if i go and apply to a different company, isn't my current job going to know. The new company is going to check employment dates, etc. I just don't want to get fired from my current job while looking for another

    Thx,
    S.

You can request your current company not be notified, but some companies will anyway.
Even if you're fired, you'll have a new job within 24 hours.

Don't worry about it. Firing an employee for getting a call to verify employment isn't common, and would likely result in you having pretty solid grounds for an unlawful-termination suit.

Do what you want, and don't apologize if questioned.

    Welcome to trucking.
Don't worry about what you can't control.
Just be prepared on your end.

    Have money in the bank.
It costs me 3 to 5 grand literally to change jobs.
Between the exit of one company,
    The hometime in between,
And the start of the next jobs first full paycheck.

That could easily be 3 to 4 weeks.
    The bills don't stop.
    So plan accordingly.

Feel no shame in looking for another job
While your still working for someone else.
They set the system up this way,
We just have to deal with it.

The longer your in this industry,
The less you'll care about any of these
Companies when it's time to move on.
They won't lose a minutes sleep when you leave.
    Neither should you.

I've seen drivers take the companies truck
And trailer that they work,to another companies
Terminal to do interviews. Many of times.
And the new company understands completely
Why it has to done this way.

Cya, make sure you have some money
In the bank first, before you send out the apps.
Your current company might find out and
Cut your time short, or you might have a
Unforeseen problem at the next job before
You ever get the keys to a truck.

    Either way,your gonna need some
    Cash to live off of.

    bzinger Thanks this.

You were looking for a job when you found that one, we really should not stop trying to improve, and they were looking for a employee when they hired you, Did they stop?

First off, don’t make a decision if your pissed off. I’m as guilty as anyone for getting mad, and quitting a job over something that could have been worked out. If the job is past saving, you can ask perspective employers not to verify your current employment until all other qualifications have been verified, or you could simply state that you are currently employed as a driver, and will supply that information when it is the last item before an offer of employment. But the fact is that most trucking companies are use to driver turnover, and won’t take it personally, and may even offer incentives for you to stay.

Quite often when your current job gets a phone call to verify employment they'll be calling you into the office to offer you a raise in order to keep you.

i actualy ran into a problem with this...i did not want the employer to know i was seeking other work, so i checked off..."do not contact"...

the potential new employer said, "that makes me suspicious", "and I ALWAYS CALL when someone says not to"...

    of what i asked

"that you're not telling me something"

    like what?

    "what is the real problem"

    i want to move on....

If you applied to your current employer with Intelliapp or the Driver Pulse phone app, they will notify your employer if you apply to another company that also uses Intelliapp. It's part of the "employee retention" package they offer to employers.
