Yep.forgot about Monterey, great place. Big Sir, also one of the best drives in the country up Hwy 1. That area is a special place.

I like Panama City, Panama and Shanghai, China and Philippines.
Most beautiful woman I ever met was in St. Martin; looked like Bianca's identical twin. Got a ping from her about Ancestry.com / She's from Nicaragua, but was vacationing in St. Martin. Go for it and build memories.

If that’s the list for best beach towns to retire in then the mag/writer knows next to nothing about the beach.

I spent three months working in St. Martin, late 80s, loved it, all kinds of drama was going on as well but the first thing that always pops into my mind whenever it is mentioned is...The Salt Pond. The horrible smell of the Salt Pond.

I'm not familiar with the Salt Pond. Wonder how the recovery from the hurricane is progressing.
    Looked it up:

It's where all the garbage and sewage on the Dutch side was dumped. Inescapable constant reek throughout Philipsburg and beyond. They may have cleaned it up...or not...I've never been back. We were living at Mullet Bay...nice resort and golf course that got trashed by a hurricane late 90s I believe and may still be in ruins.

Daytona is looking like a good possibility for the wife and I. Housing is cheap even with a pool and newer house.
Nice little city I go to for bike week, biggest issue is her family is in Virginia, if I could just talk her in to moving..

Mid winter I have pretty regularly gotten them for under a thousand bucks flying out of Minneapolis round trip.

The Philippines are not for everyone but they are worth looking into. As a bonus from there it’s 50 bucks to go to Hong Kong, and I’ve made stops and visited Japan and South Korea in route for very little extra cost since my flights passed through those countries.
