Got my CDL thru the Mira Loma, CA England school. Completed phase one training OTR for the first 30 days. Hated being in a truck with another man. Oh well, Dealt with it. Got in with a complete ####### for phase two which was suppose to be only another 30 days b4 getting to go solo as a company driver. Well, England decided to extended phase two training to 60 days. When I asked my training coordinator about it he accused me of lying and told me that the school would have never told us phase two was only a month. Also, going company solo was no longer an option. So I decided to cut ties with them. Anyways, I need to know what other companies are hiring someone with just 6 weeks OTR experience…I understand I would have to go through their training program. Is Swift my only other option? Please help…..man, all I want is to go solo with a decent company…is that so hard to find?

If that little bit of inconvenience caused you to quit so soon, you'll never make it out here. And yes it will be hard when there are countless experienced drivers out of work.

When you say "going company solo was no longer an option", what do you mean? Are they trying to force students into lease option again? or did you burn your bridge with the company rep?

Swift, Central Refrigerated (also sort of part of Swift), Gordon..would be three to try, stay away from Werner (not a happy group lately) also Stevens Transport takes students. The above might give you credit for the time you did spend with a trainer, but you would still have to start with a trainer to learn the companies system.

Like the post above said, you do need to thicken up the skin to survive out here, got to learn to let the water roll off your back. Yell and scream at the windshield, (windows up) to blow off steam, then turn the key and be a trucker!

    Good Luck to you!

I hate to say it, but I agree. It kind of sounds like you need to do a bit more homework this next time around and make sure you know exactly what you are getting into. Company's lie to get you in. That's no secret. But this is an industry of disappointment. You need a thick skin and great deal of patience to succeed in trucking.

There are people who drive trucks and there are truck drivers. You need to figure out who you're going to be.

It's a good thing you weren't around before schools and trainers etc. You wouldn't have lasted a week, let alone 6-weeks with your attitude.

I'm told I will have to train for 60 days, then it becomes 90 days. I'm told after training I will be able to go COMPANY diver solo. Now if you want to be a company driver you have to be team. Or sign up for a rip-off lease program where you almost have to take on a 2nd seat to make the #### lease payment. So...hmmm....not wanting to stay with some nasty ### "trainer" (who by the way had exactly 4 weeks more experience then I) for an extra month, not wanting to be teamed up with another guy for god knows how long after training. Yeah, sure does sound like I need to "get thicker skin." I did my research and agreed to certain terms. When the most important part of those terms changes (having to go team instead of solo) I don't see how it gives off an impression of weakness to walk. Let me ask you this...for those of you who do run solo, would you stay with a company that decided...oh by the way...I'm goon force another guy into your truck for now on.

Could it be that your training extention(s) were because you weren't learning properly???????

So sorry to hear of yet another CR England screwing. We have tried so hard, over so many years, to stop people from going to them, sigh. Yea, CR England started that quite some time back...forcing teams and no solos. I don't know why, I guess because of all the stupid laws anymore make it hard for a solo trucker to make a living. Good luck and hope all works out for you. CR England is WELL-known for screwing drivers and they continue to do so without hindrance and will continue to do so unless people actually LISTEN to people like people in here over all these years...

Not a chance. My first trainer (who actually was a trainer, had 30 years exp.) called the training dept on my behalf and told them I was ready to go solo. Not saying I know everything...or even close to everything, but I was ready to drive on my own and continue learning. BTW, my trainer was sleeping soundly after 2 days of driving with me. He said I was the exception to the "no sleep for a trainer for 2 weeks rule". Any other brilliant theories you would like to suggest? Or maybe you can now entertain the notion that not every negative post about England comes from a know-it-all newbee ####### with a prison record and a meth problem. Oh yeah, and the new 3 month training is for all drivers, not just me.

I can totally see your point. The sad thing is I did do my research. I read countless horror stories about England, Swift, ETC. But lacking the 5G to go to a private school they seemed like my only option. So now with a CDL, I’m just trying to find a company that will actually have me go solo as a company driver. Dealing with the training process is not an issue. I can deal with anything as long as I know it is not permanent. But when England decides team driving is permanent even after an extended training program, I’m out.
