Ok ... here is how it works.
There is a declared or rated value for the plates, which is where the taxes come from
And there is a limited weight for the gvrw for the purpose of a sale >>> under the 26,001 lb limit.
Your truck can handle up to 29k, 10k on the steers and 19k on he drives.
Some states like mine you can plate it for anything you want, 32k or even 45k which just means you pay more, but that of course doesn't mean you can gross that on the truck,
But you are limited to the 29k because of the axle ratings, not the sales related rating.
Go to your DMV and ask them if you can plate it for 30k and go from there.

the truck is rated not because of the frame or axles, it is rated like that to sell for a specific market.
For example ...
I have two trucks hauling for two customers around Detroit - one fl120 and an FL80 - they have a gvwr of 32,000lbs on the sticker. However both trucks have two drive axles from the factory, and the sticker both reflect both of them on each truck. With all axles combined it works out to 52,000lbs or about there, and both trucks are plated for 54,000lbs. I don't have issues with Wayne country or the state (these trucks have been pulled over many times by supercop sheriff who sits off of 94 and Russell) with the plating or the axle weights. -
I did some diligence on my side. This is not per any state agency or fully verified, but I spoke to multiple sources that seem reputable in doing work like this and it was advised that the work could be physically done, but it is NOT something they recommend as for re-rating the actual vehicle away from the sticker on the door panel opens up too many liabilities and avenues of breaking regulations. So unfortunately....just staying put until I hear or get any different information.
I appreciate everyone's time and responses.....tyTruckermania Thanks this.
