'55 and '56 were behind the light. '57 was still in the tail of the fender, but behind a chrome trim piece.

Worked in a gas station in highschool; you know, the old fashioned kind where the customer stayed in the car, we filled the fuel, checked the oil, washer fluid, tires, etc. Knowing all the obscure filler locations and not having to ask the driver was a point of pride.

 

I love Cadillacs of 70's.. Big, Comfortable , Real American !

 

I will take my Crow smoked with Mesquite please, my first thought was 56 but I jumped to the 57. I do get confused with these things.

 

IIRC the old VW Beetles had the fuel filler located next to the front fender. And refueling was literally a guessing game as some of them didn’t have fuel gauges at all(at least until the 1969 model year).

I rented a Volkswagen Jetta one time. I saw the fuel door but couldn't find the release lever inside. I had to call back to Hertz and ask them... push on it and it will spring open.

 

My wife got a new car about 7 years ago. When she asked me what the arrow was for I told her it’s an indicator telling her which way to turn to find a gas station. It took her a few minutes but she finally figured out I was toying with her.
