Let me get this right....

It was the trucker's fault that I-80 is closed overnight and that his dispatch did not re-route him properly?

I always have said the government should and could have made elevated highways much higher so there would never be a clearance problem...

Yeah, blame that on the carriers and truck drivers too...

 

I guess I don't understand your comments regarding this incident Mrs T. If he had an oversize permit that specified a route that the truck driver was supposed to take and he deviated from it, which is why he got the ticket, why isn't it his fault? Our dispatchers probably wouldn't reroute either. If our dispatchers saw a problem with the route, they would contact the agency that issued the oversize permit and voice their concerns and get the problem solved before the load was moved.

 

If the permit stated a certain route and the driver failed to follow that route, he's at fault. Period. Thing is, according to the pilot car driver, it sounds like the permit stated that they were supposed to be where they were.
The article is a little convoluted.

 

The one at fault here is the person who pulled the permit and routed him. He was routed to be exactly where he was. He was not there because of the I-80 roadwork. He was routed to go through this rural area instead. If I remember correctly, there are a couple of overpasses on I-80 that he would have been too big for. They fixed a couple, but he was still a very tall load. Somehow, when they pulled the permit and routed him to go down 20/49 instead of 80, this overpass wasn't marked. In no way should this be the driver's fault. Good thing he and the pilot car were paying attention.
