I just looked behind me and seen a whole lot that I'm liable for.
Think I'm gonna switch my swivel seat to the driver's side and turn the wheel, dash and pedals around. Then mount the mirrors the opposite way.
Since I care more about what's behind me than most folks do their own lives, makes sense to me.
Keep your head up and level !!. Look straight ahead .. Very very important

Who’s fault is it if someone collides into you while you are in your lane on a highway? If you are driving in your lane you won’t be found at fault. Exceptions are traffic merging onto your lane, say, through an on-ramp.

You can always tell when someone isn't using their peripheral vision when driving. They swerve in their lane alot. Pretty funny if you ask me. Looking at the road all the time is a bad habit to break, I used to do that all the time.

You bring up an interesting point. I would add that in cities, it is even more important to be looking far ahead of the traffic in front of you. Traffic in cities is well known for coming to a stop right after a hill or a curve. If you are actively scanning for traffic way ahead of you, you will be one of the first ones to know there is stopped traffic ahead and you’ll even be alerting traffic behind you with your 4-ways.Lepton1 Thanks this.

I’m being serious. When I first heard Stevens instructors mention it, I was skeptical. They even have posters on their walls conveying this message. After thinking about it even more I realized there are not really wrong.
So you may be thinking, what about oversize trucks that are trying to pass you? Well, if they hit you, that’s on them. Now obviously if you see them, you try to give them a little more space. Personally, I’ve never had a problem with an oversize truck about to hit me while trying to pass me. They’re very easy to spot on your side mirror. My peripheral vision catches them right away. As we all know, drivers are checked for their peripheral vision every 1-2 years.
I am aware the CDL manual mentions to check your mirrors every few seconds, but I disagree with this technique. One, it’s tiring. Two, I believe it’s dangerous when done on the freeway. You want as much attention as possible focused on what is ahead of you. If someone brakes hard due to stopped traffic, an accident, or anything else, and you are facing elsewhere, you have lost 1-2 seconds of stopping distance. I have a feeling other drivers have thought about this issue as well. -
Actually wasn't thinking of an OSOW, because usually an OSOW is the absolute master of threading the needle. Anyway, Six back quiet.
