Good Day Truckers, First let e say that as a 22 year veteran of he U S Marines, I fully understnd and appreciate the sacrifices you all make by being away from the family for extended periods of time. I was on here a while back, and I saw the amazing support everyone offered the "Brickman" when he suffered lost. Is that a true bond among the old school truckers, or just support you share with the ones you have a bond with. I say old school truckers because, the truckers I see now are nothing like the truckers I remember whenI was coming up. I salute all Truckers, You all are doing a Kick ### Job!!!!

I've always gone out of my way to help if a driver is in need. However, that also depends where he or she is at. If a truck is broke down in the city there's no need. I think all driver have a common bond and at a minimum you can ask if they need help.

Years ago on Cajon Pass in CA there was a coffee shop about half way up the grade and the owner had a box on the wall with $20 in it. There was a note on the box that said if you need this money go ahead and take it and then replace it when you come through again. I remember my Dad saying he asked the owner if it was ever ripped off and he said once in 20 years.

However, that bond maybe going away these days because I hate to say it but the caliber of drivers are not as helpful as they used to be. It may not be their fault with all that has happened in recent years.

I know when my parents both passed away within a week of each other every driver wished my family well. I also worked with a bunch of drivers that if you have an emergency we all made sure you had enough money to get home and back or whatever you needed done.

I do believe you're right about the older drivers giving more support because that's the way we were raised. That attitude was passed down to us from the old school drivers and that luxury is going away.

Thank you for your service, from a retired Seabee.

Hey GasHauler, Thanks for the response. I have nothing but love for the truckers. Always wanted to be a trucker, but Uncle Sam got to me first. I Have a lot of parners who are seabees, and you know that there is a bond we share as servicemen that you rarely see on the outside. I just really respect the all truckers, especially the OLD SCHOOL veterans, and yes, the winds ofchamge is blowinghard, but some traditions and values are not easily blown away.
    Much Respect Road Warriors........

My husband is old school, even though he has only been a trucker 8 years... I have seen him do things that remind me of the Good Old Days I experienced hanging out at the loading docks with Dad...

He once paid for a 17 year old runaway to get home, after he let her use his cell phone to call her parents and found out where they were.... they sent him a check for $500 the next week... the check is still in a drawer in the bedroom...

:biggrin_25519: My Hat's off to you ISLANDWARRIOR. Thank You for your years of dedication and service for our country. I was a Team member for 6 years and had to end that because of injuries recieved in Iran in the early 80s.
:biggrin_25512:It seems the Old school traditions of respect, helpfulness and common snece are a thing of the past. You will see them once in a while nowdays, but not often enough. Guess it's just because of the younger generation and how they are being raised.
Again Thank You for your dedication and service. Semper Fi...
