If it was me I would get a Cummins over anything else because if there is an engine failure somewhere and say there isn’t an international dealer close by, all manufacturers dealerships to my knowledge are Cummins dealers as well, just more versatility.

I’m a little late to the party but I’ll chime in anyways if anyone wants to listen.
I currently run a stock 2013 Prostar with the MaxxForce 13 475hp in the Alberta oilfield pulling 70,000lbs loads.
I just rolled over 100,000 kms with an average of 5.5 MPG.
I purchased this trick for $30,500 and have currently put $2100 into maintenance ( luckily I still have warranty )
Big things I’ve has to replace so far:
- Roughly 10,000kms into owning it I had a driver on the truck, he rarely listen to me ( granted I wasn’t always around him to nag ) that the truck should never be idled and if it did, put it on high idle. Regardless the driver did the worst and let it sit at a dead idle. This killed an EGR cooler ( or so I was told )
Cost - $9500 warranty took care of it
- 1/2 way through my 100k the air actuated fan started to always run. This is turn Cooke’s the engine and from what I’ve been told messed an EGR valve.
Cost $2100 for fan, $3500 for valve, warranty took care of $3500
- 2 days ago, CEL, plugged the computer in and again an EGR valve low voltage. Heading tomorrow for diagnosing from the dealer. Already approved for warranty.
In the year I’ve had the truck I’ve been averaging $55,000 gross per month and so far i have only had $2100 in maintenance and I would say another $6500 in oil changes and all that Jazz. If I didn’t have warranty I would be out another $13,000.
In my experience this truck has been amazing since I have personally been driving it. I have a beautiful T800 with a studio sleeper I’ve parked because I can honestly say this truck is the “Cadillac” of my 2 trucks.
