Depends on what you need. Most company trucks can have the driver do an install given good choice of gear.
1). A UNIDEN 980 cant be beaten for price/features/performance.
2). An RM ITALY KL203 amp will give 75W and run off factory 15A circuit WITH radio
3). A WEST MOUNTAIN RADIO CLEARSPEAKER removes noise using digital filtering.
4). A SKIPSHOOTER top load antenna to 13’5” on factory mount maximizes performance.
This is plug n play. No tech needed. And will outperform overly expensive BIG radios.

FWIW, I’ve acquired a few radios over the years. Thus carry a backup.

Use your spare radio in meantime. -
The definition for the way you described what you want for your radio is, “Hacked”...... (splatter box).......
Leave it alone. Your better of looking into the antenna, and coax. Specially where’s it’s mounted. -
I have a president Washington uniden no transmitting but receive is great live in oklahoma.

This is true ,was just on it last week with a radio that dead keys 20 an swings about a 100
talked from the mass pike to VA no problem
