They should change the name of this #### t/s to "I'm Not From This Country Girl". I went to this truck stop this morning to get some food while waiting for my next load. I go in there and there's only one woman working in the restaurant and she's pulling all duties; waitress, cook, busboy, dishwasher, etc. I sat down and then noticed the "menus" were up on the counter. They were just a MS Word print out of what they served. That's fine, it looked like it was a fairly new place and I can understand cutting costs with a small business. But then I noticed that the #### thing was written in Spanish. The lady comes outta the kitchen and hands me what I can only assume was the only English menu. So I sit down and look it over. The only thing that sounded appealing was the ham and cheese omelet.

The lady finally comes back outta the kitchen to take my order. I tell her I want the omelet, while pointing to it on the menu. She thought I was pointing at something else, and I corrected her saying, "No the omelet." Then I asked her if there what came with it; hashbrowns, toast, etc. I could tell by this time that she couldn't even understand what I was saying. She tells me to hang on and goes back in the kitchen. She comes out with her cell phone and speaks Spanish to whomever answered the phone. She then hands me the phone, so I now know she's called someone to translate for her.

I put the phone up to my ear and this feller says, "Bueno!"

    Me: uhhh...hello?

    Mexican dude: You want order?

Me: yeah, I want the ham and cheese omelet, but I wanna know what comes with it.

    Mexican dude: you want enchilada?

    Me: NO! OMELET!

    M.D.: Oh, ok.

Me: What comes with that, please?

M.D.: <speaks to someone else where ever he's at in Spanish, and then comes back to me on the phone> Ok, omelet have eggs, ham, white cheese, and yellow cheese.

Me: Yeah, I know what a ham and cheese omelet is made of, but what comes with it on the side? Do I get hashbrowns or toast or anything like that? All that's on the menu is the omelet. Do you even have hashbrowns?

    M.D.: I no understand.

Me: Hashbrowns! Yanno, potatoes cut up in slivers.

M.D.: <speaks to whoever else is with him in Spanish again>

    Me: Never-friggin'-mind!

And I handed the lady back her phone and walked out, knowing full well there was another place to eat down the road where people spoke English.

Now, I completely understand that I was in California and there is a large Mexican population there. However, I also can't understand why someone would have a restaurant inside of a truck stop knowing full well the possibility exists that there could be people from any walk of life come through its doors. Since this is America and English is still the language spoken by the vast majority in this country, why would anyone staff a business like this with ONLY people who ONLY speak Spanish?

I for one am boycotting this establishment and any other that I might run across that practices this method. I'm sick of the assimilation philosophy in this country.

A lot of the old mom and pops in the valley have been taken over by Mexicans....This is California and the Reconquista is a state sanctioned and approved movement....

Sorry but your boycott won't make them no nevermind. In Caleeforneeya (arnold in type) the mexican...excuuuusseee me....hispanic driver outnumbers us 'mericans' at least 2 maybe 3 to 1, so they don't really notice your merican speking driver not showing up to order your omelete without any side items.

Lucky for me I can just go home 2 or so hours from Modesto and ask wifey to fix up some eggs, but then in English she replies.."you got two arms and two legs, fix em yourself, I'm busy arguing with Rex and LiberalsRule here."

the thing that amazes me is the entire state is in ruin and they still think there wright and havent changed a bit only gotten worse.ahhhh but that is what is so great about a liberal there always wright and it shows.

Is this the small Truckstop on 7th st, just of CA99? Next to the flee market? Living in California my whole life you get use to useing sign language to order food from Mexican restarunts. They are, for the most part some of the best food around. But if you are not from here, it can drive you nuts. It use to bug me, but you get use to it. Living here, were out numbered. I do have alot of good friends that are mexican, but they speak english and teach there kids the same. The "river jumpers" never learn english and never teach there kids. If there is someone to blame, blame the farmers that hire these people for cheap labor. One farmer that was from Nebraska, had a farm full of "border jumpers" working for him here on a farm he bought, he got busted thank God, so it goes to show, there are jackpies from every state.

I know this is a difficult problem for many, unfortunately there is little that you can do about it legaly. The one thing you can do is just what you did, don't go there.

Until this Country decides to make the law more clear that English is the Language, we will continue to have this problem. Many years ago I had an issue similar, yet the sign on the front window did say "We speak English" they didn't.

If you feel very strongly about it, I suggest you write your Congressmen and Senators and voice your opinion. State that you would like to make it mandatory that business in America NEED to speak English. Another language is fine, yet if you deal with the public in a workplace you MUST speak English in this Country.

It is your right to petition your government about issues you have, just do it respectfully.

Be Well, and keep up the good fight.

Why should we "get used to it"????
All this advanced science and technology and we can't find equipment to replace the farm and Day Labors....:biggrin_2554:

The problem is that in California, the districts have been "Gerrymandered" for liberal control....The liberal answer in California is to learn Spanish and fly the "Tricolor"...Anything else is considered "racist" by the libs.....:biggrin_2554:

I live in California, and i will never learn spanish, if you know the people here in the valley, they fell the same. Problem is we are out numbered. Every non-english speaking family has 6 kids and our tax dollar takes care of them, if i did that, they would kick me to the curb. But with all that bad stuff, i will never leave here, been to every state and none are as fun as California, Serria Nevada mountains, ocean beaches, and big city fun all within an hour and a half drive, no other state offers that, plus your home is where you grew up.
