I run a set of train horns that I picked up from a truck stop and they do a decent job.
lastgoodusername Thanks this. -
I have a set of "real" train horns (Prime 920). Picked them up on fleabay. It took some work on chambers to get them working right, had to replace diaphrams etc but that is the chance i take buying on ebay... They are LOUD, but they do eat up alot of air. .....and im trying to get my post count up....

No matter what you use for a horn, please use it with absolute discretion. Those things are LOUD. Some of those highway cowboys are very quick to use them. Next thing, they will be outlawed on trucks, i am sure.
-
yea , i'm sitting on the fence about this one. i have a volvo and the horns are not loud enough. i mean by truck standards, not train. i was looking at some of the train horns as an alternative to a set of hadleys, but i just keeping thinking i may just get a couple at the junk yard. johnny

I understand your not being happy with the horn. I have a 900B with fairly short trumpets and they sound like s_-t. More of a squeal than anything. I considered getting Grovers 37" organtone horns. I still may, but not yet?
The valve i use for the train horn is a real train horn valve (more money
). It can be finely regulated for air volume and works well. There is one listed on fleabay now, but i dont think i can post a link in this forum? I enjoy this forum and dont need to be booted out for posting etc.......... david

The Truckstop Cheap-o's sound like crap!! I would rather Hire the fella that toots the horn for the kentucky derby to hang on my mirror, and toot his trumpet at unsafe motorists.
I got mine off of a P&H Mining shovel, with 3/4" airline plumbed to it. (and no I didnt miss use it.) Mainly used it when kids standing at the bus stop gave the international "honk you horn" arm gesture.lastgoodusername Thanks this. -
Yes, that is my thoughts on the truck stop horns, but i havent owned one so i couldnt speak from first hand experience. I am very pleased with the setup i have. Like i said before, they use alot of air. I ran 1/2" to my horn and it works well. #### Crotts, 3/4" line, that would drain air really fast?
-
It Did Drain really fast, just didnt use it much, a little toot at the kids every now and then.
There was this one time, at the outpost Pilot on I-15, I was teaching a guy how to drive, he pulled away from the fuel Island, about 1:00AM, trying to put his seat belt on, wrapped it around my chrome air valve by the seat, and..................................
AWOOOOOOOOGA
LOL!! I was embarassed and felt bad.
P.S. If any of you were in that pilot at that time around April/May 2005.... I'm Sorry Driver!! LOL -
i decided against the train horns. i found 4 nice hadleys in my local junk yard instead. thanks, johnny
