I've read on some of the other threads, that you can get a letter from your Doctor stating you need to be in a controlled climate while sleeping, and that will usually get you around the idle laws. But I've never read the law in these areas. It seems like there are so many different ones in different locations now, that you are probably skating on thin ice if you idle in any of these areas, regardless of pets or doctors notes.

there are a couple of the laws that have a "health or safety emergency" exemption. it got so hot my dog had a "health emergency". CA has it worded that way, Connecticut has it worded about the same way. just read http://www.atri-online.org/research/idling/2007_atri_idlingcompendium_secure.pdf for a nice list of all the exemptions.

All I can say is good luck trying it. Those exceptions are for human not animal. They have the opinion that a trucker can go to a motel. -
Illinois has the right idea no limit on idling when its less then 32 degrees and greater then 80 degrees
if your going to do an idling law at least keep it reasonable -
thats right no exceptions for pets in ca on east coast though you can idol if temps fall below 38 i think thats pretty cold...
women can get dr notes for hot flashes, you might have sleep apena and need a machine to sleep, which needs electricity...good luck with thatLast edited by a moderator: Apr 21, 2009

Do the anti-idle laws apply to 4-wheels as well, or just trucks?
-
We, as humans, can stand up for our selves. Pets, on the other hand, are at our mercy.

For Calif. try searching C.A.R.B. (Calif. Air Resource Board) It's been about a year ago, but I did find the law that said they didn't care if you had a pet or not, you will not idle in Calif.
GuysLady Thanks this. -
Applies to diesel engines, generally they are the ones that idle for hours at a time.

The California Air Resources Board does not care if you have a pet or not! Idling for more than 5 minutes is NOT allowed in the State of California. PERIOD! If you die in that truck, that is your family's problem. If your pet dies in that truck you will be charged with animal cruelty, because YOU brought YOUR pet into that situation!
I KNOW this because I have been at those meetings and heard it come from Mary Nichols' mouth myself, first hand!
(Bonnie steps off her soapbox now....)
