It’s an old trick, that’s past its day.I can remember it being common in the 80s, out of frustration many would wire a manual switch on the dash panel. Now since mid 2000, they’ve gotten so complicated, making it hard to improvise. I’m lucky my 01 still is pretty simple to work on. Like everything else, since late 90s to early 2000s. Trucks have been over- engineered with European style improvements. Making it harder to repair yourself. Even my system costs $1000 to change everything out, just parts.Thats Usually What most shops do, change everything and it will work. Lol. Your boss should get the right part, somewhere, junkyard if need be. Much cheaper in the long run. My Freightliner has a similar part called pdmi module, it eliminates 3 sensors including engine fan. It too is not working properly, my fan comes on in winter, Lol. Common problem, from so called improvement on a system that didn’t need improving.
AC compressor straight wired?

The guy who wired it is a ####ing idiot. Straight up.
If you don't want to pay $2,300 for the part, fine. But at least wire the #### thing old school thru the pressure switches and the evaporator temperature probe switch so that it will still cycle the compressor.
When you lose airflow, your evaporator core is probably froze solid.Rideandrepair and GOTSEASON8SUCKED Thank this. -
Attached is an example of the back of the dashboard vent. I imagine the blower motor itself looks ten times worse. Tried telling that the motor wasnt blowing fully but I'm guessing somewhere between the amount of sound it makes, the fact SOME cold air comes out, and the understandable fact nobody wants to rip the dashboard apart and take the motor out to look and clean and possibly replace it.... yeah nobody's looked at it.. so that's an added complication to the airflow.

Good God, stuff like that mold can make you sick. It’s hard to believe the part costs $2300, probably more like a few hundred.
