Excellent advice! That's why I am going back to trucking, even though it is tough to get into this industry during this brutal economy, I would rather try to do something I really want to do.
Are you sorry you are trucking?

its a tuff 1
bein away from family is not easy
but luckily i dont have any family anymore and nuthin real major to worry about that i would have to stay behind for
and i never get tired of drivin
I JUS HOPE THE INDUSTRY CHANGES FOR US AND BECOMES BETTER ONE DAY SO EVERYONE WILL HAVE MORE WORK -
The only other thing I would do is go back into the US Coast Guard, and that not going to happen. Sitting at home is for the birds. Give me the open highway or give me death.
If your going to work, do something you enjoy doing. If you do not enjoy a job, not only will you be miserable, you'll never be all you can be. If you enjoy it, there will be no limits in what you can do. -

I just want to be happy and feel good about what I'm doing and enjoy life. I believe that most people want to know they are doing something meaningful.

That is what life wants us to do but people just settle for what is easiest to make the most money they can today.

Right now I am sorry I am trucking, it has been a bad year for me. I have switched companies, hoping to find something better and the new company isn't any better than the one I left, nobody has any work right now, and I am stuck with a truck that I am still paying for. I have friends who are in the same boat, or even worse off than me. The trucking industry up here is really hurting.
Two years ago dispatchers would be calling me on the phone begging me to work, I could easily run 4000 miles a week when it was busy. Now I am the one on the phone begging to make maybe 1500 miles.
Drivers were making more money 20 or even ten years ago, o/o's were making a buck a mile 15 years ago, when the cost of living was much lower, rates for o/o's have gone up a few cents since then, and with the price of fuel, tires, trucks, and everything else has gone up. Doesn't seem right to me.
I have never really done any other job, trucking is the only thing I know, and right now I am not happy with the trucking industry, I think there needs to be some much needed changes.FriedTater and RickG Thank this. -
Good post . We need more like it . I can't believe all the posts telling people that can't get hired as drivers to buy their own truck . There couldn't be a worse time to take on the burden of a truck payment .

I hate to be one of the guys to say I am glad I got out.. but I am. I left trucking for the railroad and it has been a great decision so far. I've made money hand over fist since I started. Was scraping the bottom of the barrel, stuck in the worst trucking job ever before I quit. I went from the bottom, to the top and then below the bottom in trucking. Which broke my heart because I loved it. I still do.. I just don't ever see myself going back. Not with 25+ hours of paid overtime a week... Plus 2 different types of retirement... Full benefits... and a great atmosphere. Railroading is worlds different that trucking. You don't have the new guys cussing everyone one on the radio. Theres no radio rambo's. No one has ever heard of "I ain't got no panties on". You don't have to fight for parking or wait in fuel isles... theres no DOT man lurking around every corner.. no logs... Haha this could go on for days but I'll cut it at that. I do miss driving... and the good times owning my own trucks... but I don't miss the industry.
