How many truck cabs have you taken apart? I've stripped dozens in my life down to the bare aluminum. After personally seeing the structural integrity of a truck cab, or rather lack of, i'll take my chances jumping out. But again it depends on the region im in at the time. Flat and level in texas im wearing it. Mountain 2 lane in west virginia then no seat belt, door unlocked, arm rest upright and steering wheel tilted forward.
Do you wear your seatbelt?

Getting thrown out in front of the semi and being run over sounds like a smashing good time.

I often wonder why those people who claim to be good, and trying to do it right, have absolutely zero regard for laws.
Driving without a seat belt is illegal...as is speeding, driving over the legal hours etc. But many people here feel justified breaking the law. But if someone were to rob their house, rape their children, drunk driving and kill their family, then they scream he/she broke the law, prosecute them. Amazing how one sided it is.TROOPER to TRUCKER, PE_T and FlaSwampRat Thank this. -
Maybe because rape, theft and murder have to do with morality while seatbelts are just a money grab. Not wearing a seatbelt affects only me. If not using one possibly ran the risk of killing someone else, I might wear it. So far, though, my lack of restraint only hurts the feelings of silly liberals who think they should be able to control me.
Having flipped a car before, if I'd been wearing a seatbelt I would have had both of my legs broken. As it was, I only had 'rugburn' on my back.Bean Jr. Thanks this. -
I'm not sure where you can draw a connection from somebody doing harm to someone or taking something that doesn't belong to the to not wearing a seat belt. Maybe you can help me with that?Bean Jr. Thanks this.

It is just a general disregard for the laws of the country you choose to live in.
When I visit other countries I follow their laws, even if different than here in Canada. I don't believe in just following the laws that I want to. Different people have different views on what laws are applicable to them. What a warped way to view the laws of your country. I am a very active person, and do many outdoor activities as well. Even in those sports I see people disregarding all sorts of laws, maybe it is riding their ATV in a restricted area, or trying to avoid paying for a lift ticket at the ski hill. It doesn't matter what the law is, follow it.
Completely stop at all stop signs, not just if there is traffic around. Don't speed, not just if you see a cop. Wear a seatbelt, not just when approaching a scale. It isn't difficult to follow the law, actually it is very easy.PE_T Thanks this. -
Only when I'm driving.
Not by choice. -
cultural difference between us. Canada petitioned for their independence for what? over 100 years and still pay homage to a foreign monarch. (Yes you claim 1867 as your independence day but it wasn't until 1982 that true independence from Britain was achieved). The USA kicked the king out by force. See the difference? Our country was founded by breaking unjust laws.
Note: this is not a knock on Canadians, just an attempt to show the cultural differences or spirit of the populace between us.MartinFromBC, adayrider and Bean Jr. Thank this. -
It's been a habit to always wear mine since it became law here in the 80's. I have a good friend that's a fire captain and I've done many ride alongs with him and seen too many bodies ejected from a vehicle (including CMV's) to not wear one.
But that outlaw in me did rip a tag off of a mattress one time even though the tag said, do not remove under penalty of law.Lumper Humper, PE_T, Bean Jr. and 2 others Thank this. -
Again, there will always be cases where it is best to not be buckled, but in the big picture, wearing a seatbelt will save you in most of the cases. Buckling up may help save your life in perhaps 90% of accidents. Since nobody can predict the type of accident you’ll have, it’s much more reasonable to select the method with the highest record of survival. Plus, if you are not restrained, you may fall off the seat or fly out of the vehicle, and then who knows where your 80k truck will end up. Hopefully it won’t head over to the opposite side of the road.Bean Jr., MartinFromBC and Tb0n3 Thank this.
