Ever since I started hauling commodities for different companies on a commission basis I've never had a reason to speed. Every load has an appointment time. The shipper and consignee does this so they aren't overwhelmed by too many trucks coming in at one time. Some places have a first come, first serve, but have very long lines of trucks waiting to get loaded or offloaded. As they say, "Hurry up and wait".
Because of this there is just no reason to speed. I always have enough time to get there plus 3 to 7 hours extra. If I get to the warehouse ahead of time, I'm told to go to a truck stop or some other place to wait until my appointment time. So I just don't get there early anymore.
Most drivers keep saying they need more miles and will drive over the speed limit, tailgate others, blow through construction sites, cut street corners, run through traffic lights and just being a public nuisance (a jerk). All this does is increase the chance of being fined, earn demerit points, pay higher insurance premiums and waste fuel.
If it rains at night I slow down. If the traffic is heavy I slow down. I'm a professional driver and fully act the part. I could care less about how many miles I get. My only objective is to deliver the loads on time and because of this a good amount is direct deposited into my bank account every Friday morning.
Due to my safe driving habits, I own my house and cars outright, pay cash for everything and have a great retirement planned. Have been with Geico Insurance for over 35 years with no claims and pay less than $250 every six months for full coverage. My loads are always delivered on time.
No NEED for SPEED

Well, I don't mean to be rude, but many drivers today don't have that luxury, and I know the feeling of getting hung up somewhere, and have to drive like heck to make it, or wait until Monday. We didn't have the luxury of cell phones to inform someone of trouble, even looking for a phone could take a half hour. In our defense, things weren't so time sensitive like today, and many places expected something could go wrong. In an ironic twist, I had places that told me to call the receiver at home if I had trouble, and they would come back and unload me. Try THAT today!!! Also, your 3rd paragraph is bunk. You only hear of the few bad drivers doing what you state, and 99% of the drivers today are still good drivers. That's a fact or this country wouldn't exist.

Met a Quality Carriers driver last week, Let me rephrase that, Got stuck with a QC driver. Full of stories
Just sold his 2015 389, he put over a million miles on it in 3 yrs, He was driving an older Cascadia now.
He gets $8. a mile, loaded, empty or even bobtailing. He's been in over a dozen accidents since he started out in 1977, And the same mega carrier and driver wrecked him twice in the same week.
I could go on.
Couldn't get away from him, We were unloading next to each other.stwik, otterinthewater, Al. Roper and 11 others Thank this.
