The ONLY time you do a U-Turn is if you are at a dead end. You "should" have learned that lesson when you got your original Driver's Permit. I guarantee you, THAT LAW is in every single new potential driver's Permit Study Guide.... in the WORLD. How you think doing U-Turns is "ok" and don't see the dangers in it is mind boggling. Hope you know that texting and Facebooking while driving is 10 times WORSE than drunk driving!

I have seen many instances where it is ok to make a u-turn. In Michigan, for example, many times instead of making a left turn at an intersection, you have to pass the intersection then make a u-turn and come back and turn right to get on the street you want.

You just tagged something that was my first thought when I first read the OPs comment. I am constantly seeing truckers weaving on I 64 here in Hampton Roads and when the vehicle I am in gets even with the cab you can see the driver has their head looking down. I think more than anything else THIS activity while driving is causing most of these bad situations to happen.

Agreed, the generic U-Turn is not the problem. I did them some along when I drove. Most truckers have! The rub is the when and where some drivers choose to do them. It boils down to the decision-making process of the driver. More and more these drivers seem to be making poor choices and as a result, keep digging deeper into that hole.

With poor judgement of this caliber, you'd trust him on a forklift around squishy people that aren't inside metal boxes?

Generally in those situations the street is wide enough and the u-turn takes big trucks into account. It is planned for.
Still, there are times where a big truck would simply not be able to do it safely.

I've made 2 uies in my truck days. Got pinched both times with a scoulding. 1 on US 101 with a 90ft load of glue lams. :-0 1 of my proudest moments in ### hattery. (1982) CHP understood it takes 40 acres to turn a T & T oversized around. Would I do it again, hell no. Make a poor decision, learn from it.

  11. you are a perfect candidate for Western Express Charlie Haynes will lay out the welcome wagon for you
yes indeed many companies will can you for a u-turn just drive down the road use your head unfortunately too many people have made stupid u-turns either unsafe and people have plowed into them or not enough room and they've gotten stuck and held up highways 4 hours..
would you like to see one of the greatest u-turns ever simply go on to YouTube and put in
truck driver u-turn low bridge fail
that USA Truck is gone viral so many times in the last 5 years it's one of the greatest fails you'll ever see..
but yes you can be fired for a u-turn if the company prohibited you have to read your employee manual very carefully many people have lost their lease with landstar system due to being caught making a u-turn that is a No-No you drive until you find a place to turn around or if you have to you let safety and compliance know.
