Yes, before too much longer truckers will be hooked up to a machine with a probe up their rear. Kind of a shame trucking has come to this.

A bit of thread drift. About 2 months ago I started using the Dexcom G6 Constant glucose monitoring system. I wear a patch with a bluetooth transmitter that sends my blood sugar readings every 5 minutes to a device. Think about this a minute in relation to how they track CPAP usage. I can imagine a day coming when all established diabetics might well have to show that they have their blood sugar under control and the data be right there for the company safety dept to see just to get and keep their FMCSA waivers in force!

What does this war story have to do with this thread?

If you can't grasp my meaning as it relates to some of the causes of these dumb acts I doubt I can make it any more simple. And I'm not going to try.

If you don't like my comments I invite you to please right click on my name and then the ignore button in the dialog box. Best solution I know of if you don't like my (war) stories. Peace.

Way off topic, but this thread seems to have covered the original point, and is now just funny stories. Last year I sent a driver to deliver a skidder to a logging show way out in the bush. Thinking he was off course he eventually stopped and called me from the sat phone. Now remember he hadn't had cell phone coverage in 4 hours, and these roads are not on any GPS maps. His directions were me writing down some kms to turn at on very remote roads. Well we determined on the phone that yes he was way off course. He was on a narrow road, and backed up 48 kms with a tri axle lowbed that was loaded. Eventually it became late and dark, so he just stopped, right in the middle of the road because there was no where to pull off this road he estimates about 12 feet wide in most places, and just his trailer is 9 feet wide. He had a sleep in the passenger seat of the day cab, at sunrise he kept backing up further, and finally found a junction area where he could do about an 80 point turn, and head out forward. It was now Monday and logging trucks were out there so on the radio he asked for directions, and eventually found the location, unloaded the skidder, and headed home. When he got back to the yard he was expecting me to be upset, it takes a lot to make me angry.
I said well you missed a couple of turns, we all have done it in the bush. I have, and it is how we deal with the fact we are off course. You got the load delivered, the customer has a shiny new skidder that you didn't destroy, my truck and trailer are fine, so just chalk it up as an adventure. That is the exact reason i have satellite phones and its company policy to take one on all bush trips, also why i take 3 days worth of water, and snacks on trips that should be one day. I have been lost in the remote woods, and I was hauling a D8 on a truck with a tandem jeep, and then low bed. Dreading backing it up at least 80 kms, i unloaded the dozer, built a turn around area, used the D8 to drag the trailer sideways and then pull the truck backwards. Once turned around I loaded the D8 back onto the truck, and got it delivered, but it was now 9 pm, and nobody around, so i slept. The next morning they showed up at 6am, and I unloaded it. Told them my story, and they laughed, told me i wasn't the first person to get lost down that road. Well at least now at about 80 kms the lost logging trucks and others have a turn around. It is how you deal with a wrong turn, more than because a person is off course. Stay calm, use logic, and make a plan. Dumbest thing I ever did was delivered a load of crush lime rock to the wrong house. I was given incorrect directions from the home owner, who was at work, it was common to deliver when nobody is home. I was asked to spread it from the garage to the road. I set my chains, and did a nice spread that i was proud of. Went and got load two, and did the other side of the driveway. The next day the customer called and asked when it would be delivered. I said I did it personally, two loads, spread, and spread well. Then we went over the directions again for this new subdivision being built, the home owner gave me the driveway count incorrectly, and I spread it one driveway too early. Well I then went and delivered to the correct driveway, and have always wondered what the people thought when they got home to find the free 3/8" minus lime rock spread in their driveway. I was too embarrassed to ever stop and ask.

Careful with the story. We got forum hawks that get upset with them.

Your story reminded me of a time years before cell phones and the QCs of trying to find a place in Pasadena Texas. I have never in my life seen so many streets named after a berry. Finally did find a phone and called in for help.
