NTrepid1, I'm sorry you had a bad experience with Baldwin. My roommate has been there almost a year and is happier there than with any other company he's ever been with. Yes, if you lease a $120,000+ truck with zero down and a $1 buyout at the end of the lease, you make some hefty payments. Maybe you should have read the lease agreement more carefully before you signed it so you would have fully understood what you were getting yourself into. As for my roommate's lease, the details are his business, since he's my roommate -- not my husband, so I really can't speak to that. What I can speak to, is the fact that he has no problem covering his expenses and is making more after all expenses than he did as a company driver anywhere else. He is never forced to run illegal and yet has always been on time with his deliveries. He has always received nothing but support and a willingness to work through any issues that have arisen while he's been there. Maybe because that's the way he treats them. He is always pleasant, communicates honestly and is willing to work with them to ensure any situation is resolved in a way that is best for everybody, without expecting anything in return. Yes, he's had to hand off a great run to pick up a load from a driver who has had an emergency. He's taken a crummy load, stopped on the way to pick up a part and deliver it to a driver who is broken down to help that driver get on the road a couple of days sooner. He works hard, has a great support system, drives a nice truck and makes enough to cover all expenses with some left to put away. I am truly sorry that you weren't happy there, and I sincerely hope you find what you are looking for at your next company.

I went to Baldwin also. I have 20+ years experience. I found out today that i have cancer in my neck and need surgery and chemo to have this taken care of. I called Baldwin to explain my situation and i never in my life seen a company so unfeeling about the drivers. The mass in my neck is also pushing up against an artery and was told this could cause me to black out, when i told this to Baldwin the first thing they asked was if i could take a load to New York. I wont go back to them i have been with many companies but they take the cake. Yes they do push the HOS as they have with me many times, the more you do for them the more they demand. I thought by going with a smaller company that as a driver I would get treated better then with a large company.. boy was i wrong

 

Hey toolongotr, good luck driver, that sounds pretty scary (the mass), but not as scary as their response.
