Sounds like a great school. Definitely not 'just some CDL mill' and I would assume the hire rate of the graduates reflects that. Keep in mind that is not the norm. If you take a good look through all parts of this site you will see that much of the negative is justified and most likely much of it won't apply to someone in your school.
Six months, that's a long time. I went to a 'mill' for five weeks and it could have been done in half that if the days were longer - 3 hours a day in the truck after the first week which was in the classroom. I wished it was longer, they basically did nothing more than prep us to pass the test. Six months though, I can't imagine a course being that long.

The information I have gotten from this site is priceless........without a doubt it has prepared me mentally to deal with my first otr driviing experience.

I can't thank all the drivers on this site for all of the valuable information that I have gotten.
2007 Peterbuilt 386: $67,000.00
Cost of a shower, fuel, and a good meal: $100.00 or more
Valuable information on TheTruckersReport.com: PRICELESS
I couldn't resist. This thread was starting to sound like those MasterCard commercials.otherhalftw and Texas-Nana Thank this. -
Give those truck stops time, and the shower alone will cost 100$, and the way things are going....forget about the meal. Going to have to go to the IHOP down the street.Last edited: Apr 30, 2009

I see you edited your spelling, Otherhalf! Heck, I get on the ones myself that come in looking like they've flunked every class they've ever been in. It's just irritating. But I won't be the spelling police if I can read the message without a headache.
I've been watching for some other things to rise besides freight, and I have to tell ya, it ain't pretty. Since I'm still in construction for now, I'm in contact with all my subs, and other contractors and builders, who are all at best running at half speed. We went to renew our insurance the other week for the house, and the story there is that back in Nov. the contractors all pretty much shut down and still haven't renewed. That means that the larger jobs, that require full insurance, permitting, bonding and the like, aren't happening yet.
Retail stores are hit and miss, clothing is down a lot, but people still tend to eat. Most indicators I've looked at show very little improvement as yet, but did we not have a 1% rise in freight around last month? I haven't heard any new stats on that since.
The Depot and Lowe's parking lots are still pretty empty compared to what they should be now that the sun came out. This time of year the phones usually ring off the hook. I got nuttin'.Last edited: May 1, 2009

Bahkum, if you think this forum is negative...wait until you turn that CB on channel 19.StrawberryWine_SC and ss goose Thank this. -
One more thing Bahkum may not know...
Forums are that way (mostly full of negative stuff)...I've been around a few and I'm a moderator on one.
Forums are used by people that are trying to solve some sort of problem 95% of the time, that is the reason forums seem to be so full of "negative stuff".
There is good info on most all of them (this one included), but you have to learn to "chew up the meat and spit out the bone" so to speak. In other words...its the internet, believe none of what you hear and only 1/2 of what you see. -
Hey wait a minute, every lie I tell is true

Most of the forums start out question but turn into a negative forum. Unfortunately that is what your going to get everytime some one ask a question, especially the new comers that post the question, "I am new and looking into trucking".
