Hey guys, just curious if anyone knows how long people are waiting for trainers. I just finished orientation at the Gary terminal, and I was the only one in the class who couldn't get a trainer. They sent me home, and told me hopefully over the weekend. Funny thing is, I was the only one who wanted to go out today, the other guys wanted to go home for a day or two. I even told my instructor in class, smoking or non smoking I don't care, I just want to get out there, it's been a long time sitting at home and waiting.

For me, the morning after orientation finished. I doubt you'll be waiting long.

Well thats not to bad, I'm just worried that I'm going to be sitting around for another week. Would it be wise to keep calling my assigned fleet manager? When I called him this morning he all ready sounded pissed that I called him, and I really don't want to get off on the wrong foot.

The fleet manager doesn't even make those decisions. Planners do, and they aren't phone-accessible. You're harassing somebody who can't do anything about it.

Just finished in orientation in Marshfield WI, same thing here. One driver got to go home. There are allot of factors in getting you set-up with a trainer. They'll do right by you and they understand that you're anxious and excited to get on the road. Keep us informed and let us know how your are doing when you hit the road.
chipbase Thanks this. -
Hang tight because once you get a trainer hometime will be something you cherish

My husbands sitting in Marshfield tonight, he's switching from flatbed to the curtainside division. He'll be going up to Iron Mountain tomorrow to get a different truck. Hopefully you all won't have to wait to horribly long to get your trainers and get going.
Best of luck to you!Last edited: May 1, 2009

That was something I was kind of worried about. I wasn't sure who made those plans, and I'm sure the fleet managers have enough drivers calling with issues, that they don't need me calling for something they can't control.
Thanks for all the responses guys, I'm sure I'll be posting in the future, reading all the info on this site is what's kept me from going insane over the past few months while on unemployment. -
Well you guys were right, got the call from my trainer today. He's going to be getting into my area tomorrow night, and i'm going to meet up with him at the gary terminal sunday morning. So I guess a few days isn't to bad. Funny thing is I'm signed up for refer, and he's a flat bedder. Guess I'm going to learn load securement and tarping anyway. I actually think this will be a good thing going out with a flatbed. I was thinking of going flatbed, but wasn't sure if it was really for me. Guess I'll find out.

Glad you didn't have to wait long. Best of luck to you and hey, you never know, you may end up liking the flatbed side of things
