I'm getting fed up paying 8 cad per day when driving south of the border.

Does anyone have some advice to share on a plan that allows Canadians to roam in the US for something remotely close to a reasonable amount.

I'm looking at dual sim phones but I'm not sure it that a Canadian and US sim card would result in anything cheaper than one plan with US roaming.

Anyone figured out the best solution?

    Cheers!

Can't you just get prepaid US SIM card for like $30-50 per month?

Yep. I could do that and switch sims when I cross. But then that's 30-50 USD/mth + about 60 CAD/mth for a Canadian sim. That gets mighty expensive.

I'm wondering if there is a north American sim available for Canadian residents from either Canadian or US telecom providers..

I'm going to look into this.. cheers!

Edit .. minimum is 105 CAD per month in ON (plus taxes no doubt). That's about 80 USD+.

I wonder if straight talk has an international roam add on? It might be cheaper.

Edit .. straight talk doesn't work in countries other than US.

Assuming your with Rogers. .. I called and kicked up shot when they took it from $5 to $7 a day. I said I was leaving and just get a us phone for when I'm south and the put me over to the "retention" department and they gave me 2 extra gigs a month to stay and a flat rate of $10 a month no matter how many days. Don't be afraid to threaten to leave. It helps if you own your phone. You don't always need the latest greatest. I have a note 3 that still works great. When the note8's get a little cheaper l, I'll pay cash and upgrade, and won't have a contract so I can leave ANYTIME.
    GOOD LUCK!

I used to get $50 I believe a month for cell allowance. I was with telus at the time and $50 didn’t go very far. I’d shown the company a monthly bill and they ended up giving me a little more to offset the cost. I was state side probably 70% of the month.

Some of the dudes I worked with had simply gotten a US number and used a PO Box for their US address. Not sure if that is still possible or not. It was cheaper for them to use the American plan in Canada than it was the other way around.

The Canadian cell companies screw us any chance they get!
