I would rather time my run to go through austin around 0100 in the morning vs 59 north of houston. Not a bad road just several small towns to slow down for

Laredo to IH37 via 59 is kinda slow. All of South Texas dangerous after dark, two and four legged animals.
Past IH37 it’s good till near Houston. Take Beltway 8 SOUTH around downtown (or always use 610, NEVER thru center. No tolltag, oh well.
59 past Houston though, is slow as a road (varying limits, be careful) until near IH20. Use shortcut to LOVES at Greenwood, LA. and then IH220 north side of Shreveport (as above, ALWAYS use 220, NEVER thru town). Use IH49 to Texarkana and onto IH30.
US 83 runs to Canada. One can also take it to IH40 in Panhandle. Then East to IH-44 at Tulsa and up to St Louis.
As always, check miles against routing. It’s “possible” this route is “better” than thru D/FW or past Houston.88228822, JoeyJunk, UturnGirl and 1 other person Thank this. -
Us83 is waayy out of route. I tried 183 today and it is a bust. As soon as they get a bit more construction done on it it will be toll also. Nuttin for it but to slog thru on 35. Oh boo hoo. I will get over it.

The TA in Lancaster Texas (off i20 and bonnie view) pulled a cheat today. I want to say something to bolt management but the little devil on my shoulder is reminding me I'm nothing but a scruffy old truck driver and a female one at that so I should put on my shut up shoes.
What happened was.. I picked up a trailer with a recap that was chewed up badly right on the seam where it the cap is bonded. The rest of the tire looked fine and no steel was showing. I wasn't sure of the tire was legal or not..altho technically it was because of tred ok. And I wondered if the recap would tear off somewhere down the road.
So I got permission from Bolt to take it to that ta and get them to look at it. They gave them a p.o. in advance. So ta tells me to back up to a door. Lets me sit for an hour and a half then sends a youngster out to take a picture and fax it to bolt. 10 minutes tops. They billed bolt an hour and 45 minutes instead of the minimum 1/2 hr to tell them the tire was ok. That's just plain a ripoff.jsnell Thanks this. -

59 is a good road as long as you can avoid Houston during rush hour.
