No problem. Just get them to verify it. I do pretty good looking stuff up but I am not a parts salesman. Just have access to some of their stuff.

I do headgasket on one of my cats ...total parts almost $1800 . .. new 19 bolts ( one was broken ) ...only gasket kit $689

IPD, has a good rebuild kit. Even make the one pc steel piston for your engine. The only issue I have with the one pc piston is they are about 1 pound heavier per piston than cats. Dont know if that is a bad thing or not.wore out, Jazz1, T800H and 1 other person Thank this.

I'm going the IPD way, been searching verything or anything about IPD and so far looks good.
Caterpillar told me about their warranty, if something goes wrong, I have to take the truck to the nearest KW or Pete dealer, both 175 miles away, they will take it apart if it was Cats part failure, they will do the work and Cat will pay for it, if it wasn't, then I would buy new parts and the shop will finish the job and I will pay.
How I feel about that? there's no warranty, so I'll take my chance and go another route.
I just keep hearing how Caterpillar it's going out of their way not to honor their warranty. not good for me. -
It's been a year already since this thread was started and I never came back to finished it.
Well the engine was finished about three weeks after this last post because I couldn't find any body good enough to come this far from the main land and do the block counter boring, so I sat with my parts for three weeks till a good guy came from Miami and did it, and even at a reasonable price.
had a couple of little issues at start up, like a lot of white stinking smoke, drove it like that for a week and took a crack at the timing, but it was hard to see the marks lining up, even had a set of injector put in after that, thinking that could've been all my injectors went bad for seating on their side and dry, but it was still smoking and low power, then finally took a few close pictures of the timing marks and could barely tell the blurry picture the time was off by a tooth and than everything started working as it should.
It's been a year and 1LW still running good, in fact the flutter I was chasing all the time was a crack in the head from one of the valves to the injector.
Looking back now I had a good experience during the overhaul, I was very worry that I couldn't make it because a respiratory problem that I had developed that would not allow me to do anything even talk for too long, but a couple of friends came up to the plate and helped, I have to thank God, for those friends, Dan, Macky, Victor and few other that helped with phone calls and even a set of good used injectors just to try and see if it was that, 1LW is running strong and very fuel efficient, I feel good about using IPD parts, will do it again with out any hesitation, but if there is a next time will go all IPD, since I got the head from Franklin Mint, meaning Caterpillar, I kept my original pistons and con rods, was very proud to use the single piece pan gasket and there wasn't many extra parts left when finished.
I also wanted thank this site and many of the members here, the ones that posted on this thread and the ones that answer question on others threads, others that are not posting here any more but were ready to answer my questions over the phone, but specially to All Gore which with out internet I would have never met any of you guys.
Thank you all for your collaboration.

P.S. Al Gore can go straight to hell and if he takes Killary and Obozo with him I will pay for the three train tickes.Last edited: Jul 3, 2018
