the fine sand that gets into the fabric while wound loosely on the winches in the spring and winter acts like sandpaper as you tighten them on a load.

I have straps that are over 15 years old. I take care of them. I use protectors when needed and so on.

Lepton1, booley and D.Tibbitt Thank this.

Nice ! my problem is probably because i have never bought a new strap, always find somebody selling off their gear or headache rack and looking to get rid of them . sometimes being cheap is more expensive than buying new LOL

Lepton1 and Diesel Dave Thank this.

    True!

Rock climbers get on the 10th level of paranoid if their climbing rope gets sand in it. That's when you wash your rope or strap in a Dawn mix and get it out. You DON'T want to step on a climbers rope in the sand.

That's a beat down made to order.

We dont have trouble with that luckily. We haul our own goods only. And none of it would care about minor abrasions...

When I wrenched on rental equipment we'd see that all the time with light plants. Guys would toss a strap over them and just crush the #### out of the sheet metal hoods. They put chain down points on the frames for a reason lol.

    cke and Lepton1 Thank this.

I picked a short strap off the ground out back of a truck stop. Little faded but looked to be in good shape.
First time and last time I used it was to tie down a couple of rolled up tarps. They was froze solid so I was trying to get a good "V" squished in them so they wouldn't squirt out.
Going for one more click, that strap ripped completely in half and sent me on my ars.
After that any used straps get left to rot when I'm treasure huntin.

Lepton1, Ruthless, D.Tibbitt and 2 others Thank this.
