You put him under your insurance . You have to have a contract paying a set rate per mile or percentage . The amount you charge per load should include the cost of insurance . You will also need to keep a file on both the driver and the truck . If he's going to operate under your authority that's the way it was to be . If he wants to operate under his insurance or authority you'd be brokering . This just touches the basics and you need to sit down with your insurance agent and possibly an attorney .
If he is paying that much less he either has a real good rate or inadequate coverage . You might call his insurance agent and see if they could save you money .
