Most 3 week schools accomplish the same thing: 3 wks is just enough time to teach you just enough to pass your CDL-A road test. So in my opinion most of these 3 wk schools are all the same, just different prices!!

I thinks jeepskate has the right idea for the long term success in his career.

Stay away from Sky Way Trucking in Hesperia, CA
The equipment there was not up to code. The trucks were horrible, the instructors had no clue how to teach the students to back up.

It depends on the state . Some states will let you take the hazmat test before you get the background check , others make you wait until you get the background check approval before they let you take the hazmat test .
Read other posts on pre-hires . It means nothing , only that you meet their requirements . It is in no way any guarantee of being hired . Do yourself a favor and click the profiles of members posting in Bad Trucking companies and check out their earlier posts and how long they've been around . Not long ago they were very eager students . Do the same with the Trucking Schools Threads under Questions From New Drivers . It's very rare to see students stick around and say how happy they are with their jobs . Many just disappear within weeks .

I've found that this truck driving thing is like CHESS not checkers; you gotta stay in a state of "whats my next two or three moves gonna be". So to apply that to choosing a school.....1. where do you have a pre-hire with and will they accept that schools training. 2. Can you go to traing every day like a dry sponge and put out maximum effort? 3. Are you ready to tough out a year to establish yourself as a driver?
You will find out quickly that school introduces you to the truck, driving and those you meet at the shipper, consignee, truck stops or terminals are the ones you'll learn the most from. Listen to seasoned drivers. Theres a reason they're still on the road.....They are good at it.
