So I’m sure in the history of this forum this topic has been discussed, but I couldn’t find it and figured heck with it, I’m starting a new one. Granted I didn’t look too hard. ANYWAY, what is everyone’s opinion on coming up to an accident scene or road construction where a lane is closed and rolling next to a fellow trucker to prevent everyone clogging up the merge point? This happened to me the other day as I was crawling in traffic and another large car pulling a bullrack pulled next to me and gave me the “we got em now” nod. Well whatever dude I’m not going anywhere anyway. He rolled next to me in LL all the way thru the scene. Thought and opinions from my TTR friends on this tactic? Have you been the roadblocker or been associated with this maneuver? It sure made my life easier, but in the grand scheme of things idk if it helped the flow of traffic in the long run behind us.

I’ve done that before.
Seems to me it doesn’t really help much. It just postpones the traffic behind the other truck reaching the choke point. -
Ive seen it done many time... And I have done it myself a few times. It does seem to make traffic flow much faster... At least until the blocker gets to the merge point and all the traffic behind him starts the whole rush to the front of the line over again. I dont see anything wrong with it myself... To me it just ensures a first come first serve process through the scene, which in my mind is fair to everyone.

I do it all the time. If you go through the same construction zone at the same time daily you can verify yourself.. It is faster for everyone but the cutters, if the trucks fix the flow of traffic so we all go through in the order we arrived. The cutters ride into the shoulder to see if they can get by me. I stick my arm out the window and wag my no no finger and they get back in line. Shame on you for thinking your time is more important than the 300 others here. When a truck cuts in the south the CB lights him up.

Theoretically that could be true, if the cars behind the truck could see what’s going on up ahead and hopefully decide to be proactive and move over when they get a chance. Few car drivers are that intelligent unfortunately.motocross25, x1Heavy, Cattleman84 and 1 other person Thank this.

They will instinctively switch to the faster lane. modulate your speed next to another tractor so that periodically your lane is slower Catch up gently just before there is a big enough opening for a cutter between you and co-blocker. Maybe one or two shmucks cling to their ways.. Everyone else will fall into line and accept that theyre just another car who cant get around you.

It's a habit, I set up with two trucks so that Im in the rocker and they keep it just so. I play the drunken sailor and keep the gaps too small for any little car to think about daring a try. It works out well. Particularly if I toss a mini or two out the window wearing two gloves on one hand.
Its extreme. Once clear, straighten right up add power oh lord let her go.... -
Depends on how backed up it is... If I couldn't avoid it in the first place by paying attention to my radio and finding another way around, then I might be inclined to stop traffic (or help block it with someone already in the other lane)
But usually I'm in line with the rest of the pack... (or at least in line until I find out what lane is needed, then I move over)
Edit: I will also say that in most states the law does state that you should stay in the lane(s) until the merge point, then zipper in... Just most people have no courtesy and don't do that... Hence why we block traffic in the first place. Does it really get us anywhere faster. No.Last edited: Jul 7, 2019

I do it sometimes, especially helps when both of us have cb radios. Slow rolling the back of their trailer not too far in front of me, traffic starts realizing they need to merge. Then I will tell the other truck to get in front of me right before the merge. It definitely helps it flow more quickly,

What I really like is the fast learners when they crowd red lights. Then they wonder what in the world am I doing at 8 mph slow way back there? Lights green, hardly any work to keep moving for the next light the herd is racing to. And stop.
Plod along at 9 or 10 or so maybe 5... plod plod plod no stopping.
They learn and do the same.
Flips the whole system on the ear.Cattleman84, Lepton1, motocross25 and 1 other person Thank this.
