He has wised up over the past 10 years. I suspect he finally realized he should leave radio work to the experts with the proper test equipment.

 

There was a 22 mile difference between Jack Thurston's galaxy 99's and mark Sherman's galaxy 99' s..
I think Jack finally figured out why I haven't been back to him

I have read this thread and it seems to span backwards of a few years.

I think some of you guys may have been talking about two different repair shops in effingham.

I live in southern Illinois, about 80 miles south of Effingham. I have been to that shop in the Petro a few times over the years. The technical work seems to be OK but I think that they concentrate more on sales. They have one of the largest eBay stores of CB radio equipment and everything that I have bought from there has been top notch. They actually have most of their stuff in South Bend Indiana . I did order 100 foot roll of coaxial cable that I thought was bad and they set up a return for me promptly as soon as I complained, but it ended up being a different issue so I never sent it back.

The only reason I don’t like buying things from there is because they charge me tax because I live in the same state. So if I can find the same item on eBay from another seller I will usually avoid them because I’m always trying to be frugal.

I bought a brand new General HP40W from effingham radio a couple years back and it seemed to be pretty well tuned out of the box as far as I could tell. They tell me that when they get their radios in the tune them up and then put them back in the box so when they sell them they can get them out right away. Whether that’s true or not I do not know but I watched the guy do the conversion on it by removing a little resistor before handing the radio to me. So he could have been filling me full of it who knows . They have a great eBay feedback reputation

 

the link i posted is across the street from flying J... they could have moved from one spot to another like GI JOES did, this one is off of exit 160 3 hrs and 41 mins from me

 

I bought a skipshooter from them,online from ebay no problems.

Been in the shop once,didn't see a scope or analyzer,but I might just have missed it.
